Starred objects
For the past few weeks we have been using activeCollab 1.0 for our own internal project management needs - planning activeCollab 1.0. Well, that sounded odd. Although version 1.0 is still under development and some pieces of the application aren’t completely worked out, it’s already usable and really helps us stay on track.

Version 1.0 is as you already know, packed with new features. One of my favorite features is the ability to star (bookmark) any item (discussion, file, task…) and easily access it. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s simplicity and usefulness helps me stay productive.
You can use starred objects for whatever you want – there is no workflow enforced. I use them to keep track on things that I’m currently working on across all projects.
I usually keep around 10 task starred even though I know that I cannot finish all of them during a single day. This way I can pick tasks that I’d like to work on among all the tasks that I starred. If there is less than 10 starred tasks I go to the tasks page and star a few more that I feel I’d enjoy working on that day. I keep my Starred page always open in a separate tab so I can always see stuff that needs to be done. If I need to go somewhere I just hit the print button, grab my laptop and I’m all set.
This is a perfect example of what we are trying to do – make activeCollab fit your workflow, not enforce it’s own. You will be able to use starred objects for whatever you want – to bookmark important documents or discussions, filter things that you need to do, or anything else you can think of - basically, it’s the best thing since slice bread. Oh my, there’s that marketing lingo coming up. In any case, use it, abuse it... For now, wait for it. :)

Thanks!
I’d love to be testing it, I’m thinking about setting up activecollab for my work, which currently relies on email for everything. Am I wasting my time setting it up on 0.7, how long to wait for 1.0?
Thanks Mike
as already said, in summer 07 so before September.
In all seriousness, I can’t wait to get my hands on this. Thanks for your hard work guys!
Thanks / Martin
@Nicolas – Recent posts are a simple way of saying that activeCollab is alive, that we are on track and getting closer to the launch. Real teasers will be full size screenshots and videos that demonstrate new features and improvements in activeCollab 1.0.
Have fun ;)
I’ve used 0.7.1 for a few businesses. It’s a great tool.
The only modifications I’ve made are to send full content of messages and comments by email. The other modification I want to make is to have just the titles of messages in message lists instead of the full messages. Other than that 0.7.1 is just about perfect.
I’m currently using the app to build out several businesses. If these ever fly or become profitable, I’ll be publicizing your app like you’re the best girlfriend I’ve ever had.
I hope you keep the motivation for building this tool. Right before discovering you guys (which, by the way, I didn’t know until I signed up for a Dreamhost account), I was about to use backpackit.com which isn’t bad. I even paid $15 for 3 months in advance, but now wish I would of sent the $15 to you instead to help your development efforts. It’s $15 that I really needed for my company & thought that they were the “killer app”.
However, with your price (FREE, Nada, Zilch), you guys are the killer app. Yah, there are a few things I would like—you may want to check them out to see if you can get ideas. They have been creating lots of cool tools and are under the parent company that created Ruby on rails: 37 Signals.
Anyway, thanks for making your application. I’m a fan.
For example if I mark something as starred, will other people be able to see it is starred too?
Sometimes I may want to do this (if I wanted to assign it to someone and indicate that it is high priority) but sometimes may not want to (what’s important to me may not be important to someone else).
In order to mark something as high priority and assign it to someone you select a task, mark it as high priority and put the person on the list of assignees ;)
Thanks – Martin
