If you've been browsing through activeCollab forum, then you might have noticed the request that pops up frequently is a support for project templates. Some projects tend to repeat and we all know that there is nothing more frustrating than to input the same data all over again. And again... And again... It's just not productive. System already knows a lot about these projects, enough to copy the data and save you a ton of time.

While there is already a plugin that brings project templates to activeCollab, we wanted to create a built in system which does not require additional packages and just works, straight out of the box.

The whole thing is simple - when you create a new project, you can decide to start with empty project or to copy data from an existing one. This means that any project in activeCollab can be used as a template. activeCollab will copy people, milestones, checklists and tickets from template project into newly created project while preserving all assignments and relations between data.

For clutter free experience, you can additionally select project templates group. Only projects from that group will be treated as templates. This comes in pretty handy when you already have a lot of projects and want to keep things organized.

And finally, this great production booster will be part of both Corporate and Small Biz versions, meaning that all activeCollab users will benefit from it!

That pretty much sums up project templates, stay tuned for more updates about activeCollab 1.1

Will it be able to choose what exactly is copied from the other project?

I have the plugin right now, and this sounds the same.

No, you cannot specify what will system import. It will always import people, milestones, checklists and tickets while preserving attachments and assignments.

Our goal was not to do less or more than already present in Casper’s plugin but to create something that just works with bare minimum of options and complexity.

Ahhh. This is what I’ve been waiting for. We haven’t been able to use aC in our production environment because we have to create so many projects; it just takes too long.

Thanks for listening to your customers Ilija.
