Customer Reviews
I must say – pure genius. More than I hoped for, better than I could imagine. Great job! – Landon Shipman

This is a great addition! I’m so excited to finally have integrated Gantt charts for my projects. – Mel

Planning module is the best selling and most loved module for activeCollab. More than 500 companies are using it already and extremely happy with it. We have a 30 day refund policy and promise you won’t be disappointed with it.

Here is what you can expect from the Planning module.

The Zen of Planning – avoid repetition, stay focused, get more done
Planning Module lets you work as you think. It removes distractions and makes it easy to carry out batch updates. Planning module shows your entire project plan in a single screen. You can review and update milestones, tickets, pages, checklists and tasks from the same screen. It is designed to boost your productivity with activeCollab. Our studies have shown 5X improvement!

Birds eye view of project plan
Planning module provides three view modes – a tree like Outline view, Cards view to focus on level 2 items and Timeline view to see the Gantt chart of your projects. You can focus on items you wish to work on and can edit any part of the plan.

Quick and easy editing
From within the Planning module, add / update and delete milestones, tickets, pages, checklists and tasks. You can even promote or demote item levels – e.g. convert a milestone into a checklist, or a task into a ticket. You can drag and drop items, complete / open items, change their priorities & visibility, add estimated efforts, assignees / subscribers, start and due dates.

Estimates, Workflow Status, Batch Updates, Category Templates and more…
Planning module adds a lot of useful (yet missing) features to activeCollab. Apart from estimates and start dates (available for all items), we have added Workflow Status to see the actual progress of tickets as they move from Open to Closed (New – Assigned – Acknowledged – Resolved – Closed etc).

We have even added category level templates for Tickets and Pages. This lets you add a predefined structure to your descriptions. Batch Update allows you to edit multiple items at once and is full of smart tricks to save you time!

Designed to save your time and money
We added lot of smarts to Planning module to save you time and money! Estimates, Assignees and Dates will auto expand, Completed and Overdue items will show differently, Text Import allows magical plan creation by typing or pasting text, Options allow you to restrict what fields show up, Filters allow you to narrow down work items. We encourage you to explore and discover these little gems!

Now also supports – Printing project outline – Full localization support – Useful ticket module hacks – Multiple projects in Gantt chart – Branding removal – Administration from activeCollab – Managing subscribers – And lot more…

Requires activeCollab 2.1+ (SmallBiz or Corporate) & PHP5

Does Planning Module make Workflow Status available in the underlying Tickets pages, or only in the Planning Module interface?
avatar Nirav M. 2009-10-27 8:04
Hi Rob,

Sorry for not replying to this. Did not notice your question.

Planning module comes with Ticket module hacks that show the workflow status in the underlying ticket pages within activeCollab. So you can update the workflow status (among other fields) from both Planning module and Ticket pages.

Thanks.

Is it possible to create an invoice from the planned hours as a way of creating estimates for clients?
avatar Nirav M. 2010-01-15 1:26
Sorry John. It’s not yet possible to send an estimate / quotation using hours estimated in Planning module.

I’ve noticed a problem with security in using the planning module. I have a user that has no access to milestones, tickets etc. However, by accessing the planning module, they are not only able to view these, but make changes.

Is there any way to turn off the planning module for specific users?
avatar swendel 2010-05-28 10:44
Nirav,

Are their plans to add better printing support to this? Using the built-in AC printing for things like timelines is pretty much useless. The Outline is barely useable for a small project.
avatar claudiocalvao 2010-06-09 3:22
This printing support is something really important for the planning module.
avatar Nirav M. 2010-07-24 1:29
@Becky: You can disable access to Planning module to certain roles from Planning Module Administration. This is available under activeCollab admin panel. You can decide what roles have read access and what roles have write access.

@Swendel, Claudio: Planning module 1.4 has improved printing for Outline and Cards view. The outline print is excellent actually! We are working on improving Timeline printing.

Thanks!

Is this a Flash based module or does it use Javascript?
avatar Nirav M. 2010-08-23 6:14
This uses Flash. The frontend is in Flash and backend is PHP.

Hi,

Does Planning Module make simple Gant chart for all my projects in one view ?

Best regards
avatar Guest 2011-01-25 6:18
Is there a way to make one task dependent on the other, so that module counts the start/end dates of it automatically (similar to MS Project) ?
avatar Guest 2011-04-15 3:04
We use tickets to keep track of action items on a weekly basis. To do this, we just created a ticket category called “action item”. When we view the tickets screen, we can filter to show only “action item” tickets, but there’s no way to SORT by who is responsible.

Does this planning module have the ability to show a list of “action item” tickets sorted by who’s responsible?
avatar Guest 2011-04-27 12:44
I want to print out time line or the outline for a client but I don’t want to show the estimated times or the task assignees.

I’ve used the settings to turn them off when viewing but when I print it brings up everything again.

How do I work around this?
avatar Guest 2011-05-05 9:40
The ability to make tasks or tickets dependent on the completion of something else would really be helpful. Basic Finish-Start dependencies would be a good start. Additional dependency types would be even better (Start-start, lags, etc.)

Thanks,
Andy Soodek

@Boris: Yes. Planning Module can create Gantt chart of multiple projects in one view.

@Evgeniy, Andy: : No task dependencies yet, since activeCollab does not have them either.

@Nick: Not yet. Tickets Plus module (that comes with Planning Module, and can also be purchased separately), includes lot of sorting options on tickets. But not on the responsible person / assignee yet. But you can use the Live Search in Tickets Plus to filter tickets assigned to a person. Which could work for you. So you could search for “Nick” and will see only those tickets that have “Nick” somewhere in them – including the responsible person name.

@Frank: You are right. There is no way to do this. We are going to improve printing support in future, and will take this up then.

Hi Nirav,

I’m testing ActiveCollab with planning module for the moment. I’m setting it all up, so my teammembers in our webdesign company can start using it from our next project on.
I must say I’m disappointed in the functionalities of the planning module, which is for me – I’m responsable for the planning – the core of the project management.
I miss some functionalities – or mayby I’m not seeing them? – I want to assign tasks/milestones/tickets to teammembers, and make the assignees visible in the gantt chart – when creating a new ticket via planning module, it always creates a milestone also, which is very confusing and disturbing if you take a look at the overview. Can this be fixed? – is it possible to add different colours, depending on the assignee for a ticket/colour/milestone? – i can’t manipulate the gantt chart itself? This always needs to be done via the cards? – why don’t the ‘cards’ only give an overvieuw of tickets, not of milestones or tasks?

Thanks for your help!
Maarten

We have not been able to get either the Planning or Gannt modules to work – can we get better instructions for them regarding setup, integration and just what customization is offered?
avatar Ilija Studen 2011-06-09 3:43
Hello Darci,

Planning module is developed by Apps Magnet so you can get in touch with them directly if need assistance.
avatar guillaume 2011-06-13 11:40
Hi there ?
Is there any chance to have assignees names in the timeline view ?
That be very helpful to quickly identify workloads when printing projects.
avatar Nirav M. 2011-08-19 7:35
@guillaume: we did show assignees on timeline earlier and removed them on user requests! We will consider a way to deal with this in a future update.
avatar Nirav M. 2011-08-19 7:39
@Maarten: Do email us at support at appsmagnet dot com, if you are still facing difficulties with Planning module.

Planning module should allow you to assign items to team mates easily – one way to do this is to enter initials of their name in the Assignee column in Outline view (you can certainly enter full names or first names too)

Creating a new ticket via Planning module won’t create a milestone automatically. If there was no milestone for an item, it will show under a “Milestone Unassigned” placeholder milestone.

Planning module does not support adding colors or editing the timeline Gantt chart yet.

Hope that helps.

We are considering purchasing the planning module, and I was taking the demo for a test drive. I noticed that when you drill down the timeline to the ‘day level’ the tickets and projects disappear from the timeline. Some of the tickets we assign only take a couple hours to complete, but we’d still like to be able to drill down to the day level and see a visual representation of the bandwidth we’re going to need for any given day.

Is this possible?

Thanks!
avatar aldrinm 2011-12-07 3:34
Hi Nirav M,

Is it possible to have a Gantt chart that shows the status of all projects?

Is this also capable of producing a gantt chart that shows the list of users/resources and the projects assigned to them mapped in a timeline?

Do you have a screenshot or can I see these through the live demo?

Thank yo.
avatar Nirav M. 2012-01-16 12:55
For any questions, do email us at support at appsmagnet dot com. This place is not monitored regularly.

@Guest: Will consider this for a future update.

@Aldrinm: 1. Yes. Planning module does allow you to load multiple projects in a single Gantt chart. 2. Resource allocation view is not available yet.

Hi. I would like to purchase the module but looking for a functionality I can not find. I want to shift the parent project by number of days and have depending tasks to shifted automatically. Is it possible with this?
