Notify on Reply to Discussion

I see there is an option to notify users when a new discussion is posted but I don't see that same option for replies. Am I just not finding it or was that a design decision ? And if so, what were the thoughts behind that?

Notifications are sent to people who are subscribed to the discussion so anyone who is interested can subscribe and receive email notifications.
Initial set of subscribers are the people you selected to receive notifications when you created discussion.
