Hello,

I' m just playing around with the try-Version of aC to see if it fit my needs. It looks very good, but there are some things I'm missing - or not able to figure out how to use aC correctly.

Is there any feature like to have things been done before other things can be started? For example to complete a checklist (or a ticket), before another ticket (or checklist) can be started? For really big steps I can use milestones, I know. But for the small things, I'm looking for a solution.

Regards,

Falk

This feature is not currently available. You can always subscribe on a particular ticket and get notified when it gets completed so you know that you can start working on something else.

Is this a planned feature for the future? If not, I would like to place my wish for this feature here.

It's not just for notification, but for a strict workflow management.

Maybe you missed my post. Does the active collab team has an opinion on this feature? :)

Task dependencies support is not planned at the moment. We do not think strict workflows are a good idea so we do not plan to introduce features that would enforce them.

We added an easy way to subscribe to tasks (like you can subscribe to tickets and other objects) so you can easily be notified via email when task you are waiting for is completed.

Hm, maybe you have an alternative idea. I want to describe a workflow .. for example what to do if a customer gets a new server. Things have to be done, in the right order. Cabling, switch configuration, server installation, monitoring setup, etc.

I understand your request. You want to be able to define strict workflow where tasks need to be executed in specific order and cannot be completed any other way, but the way you defined. It's just that I don't see how it would benefit most of the users.

Dependencies make things so much complicated without providing any REAL benefit. Sorry, but I don't see this feature in activeCollab any time soon, if ever.

We used to use a system that had that but found it more difficult than it was worth. Essentially it takes at least twice as long to set up tasks and define all the dependencies.

If you really need that, you could look at dotProject, however, I would warn you that we found that system to be bugging. We then switched to Celoxis, a hosted commercial product at about $14/mo/seat. That product worked great but again we decided it was more than we needed and it didn't work well with clients (too complicated).

Ilija - What if you could at least change the order in which the tasks are laid out on the page? Is that something that will be in V 1.1?

This would be a nice compromise!
