There is a requested field as "Installation URL" during the purchase process, how to state if we want to buy aC for a local install on intranet? "localhost"?

thx.

Put exact URL activeCollab will be hosted on. http://localhost or http://127.0.0.1 are perfectly valid URL-s.

Thanks.

I have purchased aC for local install with URL http://localhost, and like to refer it to a fixed IP address on the intranet (e.g. 192.168.x.x), and may have to point it to a different local IP address later on. SO I have to apply a new license file every time? and do a fresh reinstall every time? thx.

You change it's URL frequently? You don't have any virtual host (ex. http://intranet or http://projects) or anything like that defined?

Now I have applied a new license file (for URL 192.168.x.x) and downloaded it, shall I remove the current install and do a new install?

For the time being the IS has not yet allocated a fixed IP for the machine aC is installed.

Under current install with URL as http://localhost, it seems I have problem accessing aC from other client pc pointing to its IP address, e.g. 192.168.x.x; but with previous aC 0.7.1 install and URL as http://192.168.x.x, it was working well. so what's the difference between URL http://localhost and http://exact ip address during the aC install? how to define a virtual host in a intranet environment for aC to work well?

thanks,

No, you do not need to reinstall. Just download a new license file from View Licenses page and put it in /config folder (overwrite existing license file).

Setting up a web server that is accessible from entire LAN is not something I have experience with so I really cannot help you there. If you need to change URL base for all activeCollab pages open config/config.php and set ROOT_URL to value you want.

Now I set ROOT_URL to the exact IP address as suggested and it works, thanks.

by the way, what's the difference between the license files? when exactly do I need to apply a new license file?

You need to update license file whenever you update licensing information on View Licenses page - change URL, purchase branding removal, upgrade from Small Biz to Corporate etc.

We have installed aC on intranet with a local ip address and aC works well when accessing it in the office.

now we also need to access aC when at home or on travel - our IS has allocated a public ip address and map it to the local aC install? can it work when pointing to the public ip address from at home? is the license file needs to be updated?

thx

activeCollab generates absolute URL-s and uses only one URL as base for all URL-s it generates.

If, for instance, you are using http://intranet (or IP) in local network and ROOT_URL is set to 'http://intranet' all URL-s generated by activeCollab will be something like http://intranet/#SOMETHING#. You might get through to application by visiting public IP, but from that point on all links will start using ROOT_URL and not the address you came from.

Solution is to use something everyone can access as ROOT_URL, in your case public IP.
