This isn't a dealbreaker for me, but we would really be pleased to have this. The best implementation of this kind if thing I have personally seen is on Netflix's draggable movie queue but basecamp does this well too.

I'd like to add my +1 to this thread. Task List priorities may work fine for you with a small team, but when you're dealing with a group of 20+ people using the tool for a wide variety of things, some only once in a while - but all who need trained on the tool, I find it difficult to explain using priorities as a numbering scheme, as people generally think of priorities differently, and because our projects often have many more than 5 steps, and things which are set to the same priority don't seem to clone (via project templates) in the same order.
In other words - it's a crap shoot as to if your tasks will come out the same order, if you have more than ~5 (available priorities).
So please please, make this feature a "High Priority". It's causing a lot of pain here.... (:
(Anecdotal: I've also referred you 3 customers so far, and every one has hit me up for the exact same issue).

+ 1 ... Especially since tasks are assigned to "Checklists". A checklist implies a specific order or sequence of events and NOT priority. First do this, next do this.... and finally do that. Examples: Server setup process, standard proposal process.
Priorities apply to tickets just fine since those are usually isolated actionable items without dependencies. It doesn't make sense that we would have to compose our checklist offline and then load it in the exact order and if we find something missing, unload it and reload all the tasks again. Very painful! I wouldn't care if it wasn't a fancy AJAX interface. A simple text field for tasks to accept an integer would be fine and then sort on it.
Just a side note: I found a thread on this forum from 2 years ago discussing this feature and it was projected to be a part of release 0.8.

I would also like to see this implemented. Coming from 0.71 we are in love with this version of AC, and we enjoy the 1 time price over the monthly charge.
+1
I think AC is bad focused. If its a Project Manager System not a Ticket System, tasks, checklists and planification should be the most important part. AC at the moment has Ticket as an improved module of Tasks and its not! A project have checklists because there is an order of doing things, in most cases task 1 must be completed to do task 2 and because of these is FUNDAMENTAL to reorder tasks.
Another things are tickets, that are "requests of doing something", they come during the day to day work and its not so important to order but yes to prioritize them.
Why do you think we requested so much project templates? Because we need to plan and stablish an order, a list of thinks to do since we start until we finished.
So you can imagine the caos I have at the moment I explain you my AC: All tasks into 5 tickets considered as phases sorted by priority (only way)
Ticket 1: Max: Phase 1- Planning
Ticket 2: High: Phase 2- Design
- Task 1: Design Home page
- Task 2: Design Subpages
- Task N:...
Ticket 3: Normal: Phase 3 - Progamm
- Task 1: XHTML / CSS Home page
- Task 2: XHTML / CSS Design subpages
- Task N:...
Ticket 4: Low: Phase 4 -
Ticket 5: Min: Phase 5 -
And into each one all the tasks. This is because if i have 40 tickets and if i need to put one after task 23 i have to erase and recreate all to maintain the order. These way I only have to erase and recreate the ones into each phase. Can you imagine doing these each week? These tool should be TIME EARNING and at the moment its complicating me.
I regret having changed from Basecamp to AC only for this lack. We are talking of something so important and obvious that is illogical to be asking for it for a tool that costs 399$!!!.
Please consider this as a necessary and urgent update. I think all of us are waiting to you to tell us if you are going to do it or not to make a decision and dont waste time. And... so we now if we would need to pay another $199 to get it if my update account expires before you launch the update.
Thanks,

I too would appreciate knowing.
I appreciate the fact that you do not want to disclose what you are working on. But this has been a very popular feature request for quite some time now.
Are we just wasting our time waiting for this?

Too bad Casando,
It's marketing. Why release anything when you have a whole wave of early adapters who bought in right away? Why not wait until their year of free updates us up, and then release the much requested upgrades right after, so the folks will shell out another couple hundred bucks each?

Great appointment, a little bit cruel, but realistic :p. However I hope this wont happen because I think me and maybe some of you wouldnt pay another time only for having something that since you bought it you expected to have. Because its obvious!
