In this topic I'll inform you about progress on new version.

First, activeCollab 0.7 on our Trac installation.

Here are things that are planned for 0.7:

* New files section with versioning and comments
* New comments that can be easily attached to any object type
* Configuration section in administration
* Improved mailing support
* Bug fixes

Progress notes

Here are some quick notes, just to keep you posted:

* New documents section is almost finished. We have folders, files with versionin and comments, permissions. Everything is in place. There are some small quirks that need to be fixed, but its in usable state and almost finished.

* You can attach comments to any project object now. Thing that you can does not mean that you should so comments are attached only to messages and files. There are a few helpers that let you add comments to any object in a few seconds (mark object as commentable, add comments listing for specific object, add post comment form for specific object).

* I'm integrating SwiftMailer mailing library (thanks to Chris Corbyn for such a great library). By default activeCollab will try to emulate PHP mail() function (use Sendmail if available, if not try to use SMTP). This is for users who don’t like to configure their stuff :)

* For the users who like to have full control (or have some other reasons why they need to take control in their hands) activeCollab lets them use any SMTP server they wish. It also supports establishing secure SMTP connection (SSL, TLS). This one is still work in progress but draft (or even working code) will be available when I commit revision #8.

* I've started working on update script. It will be simple, you'll need administration username and password to run the script and it will be really easy to extend. Hard part will be update script executors (small scripts that do the actual upgrade).

* FileRepository resource for single file access. The API is simple and maybe in the future we add a support for multiple backends.

* Configuration tab in admin that is easy to extend with custom controls. Options are in categories and all have name and optional permission.

First of all, let me express my admiration of the work you are doing. The project is great. I've been searching for the opensource project management solutions, and even though activeCollab is a new-born, it's ahead of the others already. Nice!

Now, a practical question. When do you recon the plugin support might appear? Any plans? I am really looking forward to that.

With all respect, M

activeCollab 0.7 community preview will be available in aprox 10 days. 2 weeks as community preview so we should have public release by the end of August. I expect 2 months for plugin support and some essential plugins ported, but that can easily be changed because I don't have everything sorted out. So, count 2 and half months as minimum for activeCollab 0.8 (version that will introduce plugin support).
