Hi - I was considering using activecollab after a friend in the business showed it to me. It has some really neat features but one place it fell absolutely flat for me was the invoice module!

It doesnt create a new line item on the invoice for every time record automatically!

For me this would be absolutely essential... so if I have 3 time records entered, and I go to reports, and click on the invoice button at the bottom I would like there to be 3 items on the invoice, that I dont have to fill out myself... something like this.

1. what I did. - How much time it took - per hour cost - total cost
2. what I did. - How much time it took - per hour cost - total cost
3. what I did. - How much time it took - per hour cost - total cost

First off, I want to say that I think the invoicing module is a great step for AC. However, I wanted to start a thread to provide a place for people to offer suggestions on how to improve the invoice module for future use.

Currently I use FreshBooks and would love to switch to AC for all my invoicing. If you haven't tried FreshBooks it is an excellent place to see a great invoicing system.

Here are a few things I think would be incredibly useful in AC:

- Payment Gateways

For use with online payments using a service like PayPal. Another thread about this same topic is here: http://www.activecollab.com/forums/topic/4751/

- Reoccurring Invoices

Used to automatically invoice clients for items such as hosting, domain names and etc. Ability to choose frequency - yearly, semi-annual, monthly, daily (probably will never be used).

- Estimates Workflow

Ability to create an estimate, for quotes, and when they are approved by the client turn them directly into invoices.

I agree, these 3 items I would love to see in the invoicing module. In order:

1) Payment Gateways
2) Estimates Workflow
3) Reoccurring Invoices

Hi Jason, Mattias,

Thanks for the feedback, we'll continue working on improvements to invoicing module.

In your experience, which payment gateways are popular with small businesses?

2checkout.com is a must, Ilija :)

Hi Ilija,

With regard to gateways, I would think products like WHMCS and Freshbooks would be good examples to consider.

WHMCS has more than 50 supported Gateways http://www.whmcs.com/modules.php

Looks like Freshbooks supports at least a dozen gateways, but I can't find a nice list on their website.

Auto-Recurring invoices would be a huge benefit to us as well so we can auto-bill our retainer based clients.

Would also like to see something more formal with regards to Estimating.

Hi, I really like the Invoicing module. It's a great help for my business.

However, could you consider adding the following feature to the invoicing module: it would be very handy to be able to select several (completed) tickets in the ticket overview screen (or the ticket archive screen) and collect all of the selected tickets on one invoice.

What do you guys think?

Thank you for the suggestions and sorry that we are not replying to each suggestion. Don't worry, we read everything and we'll improve invoicing module based on the feedback that we are getting :)

We know you're out there Ilija ;-)

Here's another model/example of a web based invoicing tool.
