I am looking to limit the amount of e-mails being sent from ActiveCollab. Right now, my company has a lot of users working with this tool and when new comments are created, tasks reassigned, etc... too many e-mails are going out.
Does anyone know of a way to limit what actions cause notifications to be sent out? Cab anyone provide a list of files that I can edit to define this? I don't want to turn the e-mail feature off since I believe it’s very valuable but at the same time people are treating all the notifications as spam and just creating rules in Outlook to delete them.
To keep number of notifications at normal level, make sure that people are subscribed only to objects that are of their interest, not all things under the Sun. It's easy to fall in a trap of subscribing everyone to everything, and that results in too many un-important emails being sent and in recipient loosing interest in notifications. That is something that software can't resolve on its own, but requires a bit of discipline from people who use it...
What types of notifications would you want to turn off?
Send an E-mail
When a new object is created
When someone clicks "Send Reminder"
5 days before an item is due*
The day an item is due*
*Note: The last two are handled by the AC Notifications module. Thanks Casper!*
Don't Send
When tickets, tasks or milestones are completed or reopened
When people assigned to tickets, tasks or milestones are changed
When new version of files or pages are posted
When new comments are posted
