Re-name Projects, Milestones and Checklists

We want to re-organize ActiveCollab to reflect our business process. We would like to rename

Projects -> Clients
Milestones -> Projects
Checklist -> Milestone
Tasks -> Deliverables (optional)

Tickets remain (obviously are now under Projects instead of Milestones)

What would be the best way to do this? I was thinking of using Localization and add a "Language". Ultimately I would only "translate" items where any of these words are used. Is there a better way to do it?

Thanks for your feedback............... Olaf

Hello Olaf,

Majority of people who want to rename a specific feature use localization to achieve that. Check out this article for details. Note that this is more of a hack than an officially supported feature.

Our recommendation is to leave the system as is and use it like that. Small tweaks in your workflow here and there may end up saving you time in the long run - after each update, you'll need to recheck all your translations, even for smaller releases. For big releases that change quite a bit of functionality (like upcoming activeCollab 3), you may need to start from scratch for some types (in v3 tickets become tasks and checklists todo lists).

Basically, hack the system ONLY if you are prepared to invest time in this after each update. Skipping updates because you have heavily modified system is not good because our releases always contain bug fix releases, and in some cases security patches. Because of that, staying up to date and having upgrade process as easy as possible is highly recommended.

I went to fast in trying this hack out and read the final 'Don't use en_US or en_US.UTF-8 locale' too late...

Now I have a useless en_US.UTF-8 'customizedEnglish' entry in the languages page; and there is no way to delete it; can/should I clean it up with phpMyAdmin?!?

Ok, I have now created a 3rd language with en_GB.UTF-8, edited all entries I needed to be updated in the various sections (we have a problem with the term 'Companies' being a project with research institutions from various countries); and checked this language as the default one.

Everything set, it works fine for general users; but when working as the admin the old terms are still in use, no matter logging out, cleaning browser cache, running the scheduled tasks, despite the fact that the new localization is shown as the active one inthe admin profile->settings page.

Feature!?
