No, really. Why offer the sizzle when you can offer the steak? A chance to see the interface in action is far more effective than even a comprehensive set of "feature" docs.

Hm, you can create yourself an account right on the main page. It's true that maybe it should be labeled with big fat DEMO

I changed title of the box to Demo access. Helps? Or not...

A little bit, maybe you could try putting DEMO in caps on top of the login/account creation box...

OMG, I didn't just miss it ... I missed it /completely/ ... else I would have suggested changing the link design.

But this is good! Gratifying to know for sure that you have considered that substantial component. (A lot more substantatial than the design of a link; but this is a cautionary tale: a good effort can fail to communicate.)

greets to you two

Okay that's much much better ... and trust me: I very very rarely to for UC ... it is, cognitively, shouting.

I came back to write this rather than forging ahead because I had a thought. Now, as is, it explains itself. (I'm finding that as AJAX moves forward button design does likewise; there are some very elegant skins out there) But before, without the SHOUT? Not at all ... which brings to mind this: nothing else on the page references or even hints that there is an operational demo site. Traditionally that is listed along with Download and Documents and FAQ, yes?

k ... more later

Woo ... really nice. yaa ... yaa, nice. thanks for this.

p.s. have you looked at / used netvibe.com? I've tried/used other AJAX desktop-style aggregators ... netvibe has a very nice feel to it. Cognitive ergonomics, yes? (Many years ago Japanese UI designers were talking about "pride of ownership". *shrug* I think it's a sweet idea.)

Your 100% right. Only page with demo access is homepage. I'll change this soon.

Yes, I use Netvibes as my aggregator. One of the best web apps today. Great interface, everything works as expected. Great stuff.

Looking at HomePage again just now ... "Download" should be demoted, I think; it monopolizes the most important area. (Latest user tests confirm that appreciation of the page begins upper-left and proceeds downward in a ragged Z shape, with only slight attention to the right. "Users don't read" remains painfully true.)

This lists typical active projects at SourceForge that manifest the convention:
OpenCYC; NxBRE; YALE; refdb.sourceforge.net; inkscape.org.

Fabulous. I know of no project management / tracking system that makes such good use of techniques, but can think of no good reason for this to be so. "It's the shoemakers' children who are last to get shoes." The early Netscape used the concept of "dogfood" i.e. developments that helped the process of developing the ''end product''. I think a really fine AJAX GUI should be considered dogfood. (Hope this isn't inappropriately philosophical in this forum.) I suspect that ZK will be easily sufficient for good prototypes.
