The breadcrumbs have been letting me know where I am ... and that's good ... but wow, it sure is a labyrinth!
In general / conventionally, changing the set of Tabs presented is meant to convey context information. What I see is just confusing, i.e. c=dashboard&a=my_tasks and c=dashboard&a=my_projects and c=dashboard&a=index present 3 tabs but after having selected a task the tabset has changed; OverView and Tasks are still there but if I backtrack and ... (*time surfing*) ... now I'm more confused: clicking on similarly named tabs and links lead me down different branches ... I don't trust that I could find my way back to a given page.
p.s. Arrgghhhh! On c=message&a=view&id=5&active_project=1 I wanted to comment "Notes such as this should present Time/Date stamp" but could find no link to add a comment. Have you done UML? Crazy-making to be dealing with many things at once! ;-)

what you need is kind of "mod_rewrite" like in textpattern.
so that you get http://yourserver.com/activeCollab/project1/task2/message instead of ?c=task&active_project..
i am not sure how the hierarchy is arranged projects > milestones > tasks > messages?
but i am sure this is a huge task for the developer

activeCollab had that kind of URLs but I removed them. Its much easier to set up this way (no mod_rewrite dependency). Does regular people care about URLs?

Maybe you could set this as an option, after the installation. It looks much nicer :)
I don't care about nice URI's, it isn't going to be indexed by search engines anyway...

me too. but if you got that function already, make it optional in the installer script?

I think that I'll add something like this into the installer. Because of the API.
http://www.activecollab.com/api/list_projects/
looks much better than:
http://www.activecollab.com/index.php?c=api&a=list_projects
