rambo:Dreamhost needs and update. They are installing an old version with one-click.
Dreamhost will roll out an update when we release 0.7... That branch is on hold for some time because some of other project I have to work on but as soon as I find 2 - 3 days off I'll work on the code and release it.

Do you have any idea of what will happen to the one click install at dreamhost when you go comercial? Do you thing they will stick with the free version, or keep the 0.7.1 until an open source alternative comes up?
That's 500.000 Domains (possible clientes) to think about.
I started using activeCollab trough dreamhost, I would like to keep using it trough my host.
From what I understand you're going to provide activecollab with your own hosting, like a host exclusive to activeCollab, much like basecamp (from the little I've read, I never used it). But I also read somewhere that a person could still install version 1.0 anywhere, loosing auto-update and auto bug correction in the process. That's fine has long one can have all the features and plugin support.
Have you thing about going in a donation direction? insted of comercial? I'de rather support an open source project than a closed on, but still I like activeCollab very much.
Even without disclosing the prices, can you give us a light about the pricing plans?
What will be our options?

You haven't understood it well. Beta will be hosted, but activeCollab 1.0 will be available for download and can be installed on any host that matches system requirements, including Dreamhost. I really don't know what will happen with one click install, but I'll send them a letter and see if we can arrange something.
Commercial it is and that is the final decision. Thanks to the switch we will be able to provide more value to our users - features, support, integrations and a solid development platform. I am really sorry that some people don't see the switch that way...
Price for Pro version will depend on your teams size. Larger the team more expensive the license will be. Contact me on ilija.studen@gmail.com if you are interested in more details.

Ok, I misunderstood then, regarding the beta vs final version being hosted.
Can't wait to know what dreamhost will say back.
Then commercial it is :P
I understand the reasons to switch to comercial, but still there are companies that have comercial and open source has one. Ofcourse one should follow the path that's best for him and his company, I can't even imagine what is like to develop such software, so I'm ok with your decision.
That's ok I'll wait for the final announcement! It's really worth the wait!
Great work by the way!

I have to share this funny story with you about this. I had been using PHPCollab a while back (because it was better than anything else out there at the time). And I talked a web design buddy into using it. She's not as well versed in things as she should be, so I ended up having to install that for her manually.
Now I'm using ActiveCollab and told her about it, thinking well it will be a snap to install even for her and much easier and more intuitive to manage one's projects with.
So she IM's me this afternoon and tells me "Active Collab was a breeze to install" -- thinking that she had done like I had, unzipped the distro and FTP'd it to my site.
NOW just this very second I have learned that it's a One-Click install at Dreamhost. And that little stinker has a Dream Host Account. Joke's on me but I'm SO glad this thing is getting the publicity and mention that it deserves.
Way to go, Ilija and crew!

Hi! I gather there are DreamHost one-click installation issues but I'm not seeing how these were solved. . . Especially since I am having the issue myself: "activeCollab is not installed. Please redirect your browser to public/install folder and follow installation procedure."
What specifically is the fix? For a non-developer. Thanks!!

ljbwebdev : when you do the 'one-click' install on DH you get sent an email from DH system with instructions on how to configure the activeCollab install - I installed mine over a month ago and don't remember any problems when I followed the email instructions..
AFAIK - there isn't really an issue apart from DH definition of 'one click' ;)

No more 1-click...

3. Old One-Click: activeCollab!
There was nothing in Fifth Grade that got me riled up more than 3rd
Generation Garbage Pail Kids. Nothing besides Open Source projects that
we offer as a one-click install who all of the sudden decide to start
charging ridiculous prices for their previously free software!
http://www.activecollab.com/blog/49/activecollab-1.0-plans-and-prices
Twenty years on, and still nothing's changed! Well, things have changed
a little it looks like, because if you follow that link activeCollab has
apparently gotten a little scared and crossed EVERYTHING out.. implying
they're about to back track on their change.
WELL IT'S TOO LATE FOR SORRY!!!
We've ALREADY dropped activeCollab as one of our one-clicks we offer.
Hopefully someday we'll be able to find some other open source software
solution that offers similar functionality...
