It is impossible to build such a thing in a way that it can run on any PHP5 powered web host. Plus, most of the tools used for building such a system are not free.

*Ability to subscribe via RSS to individual documents so you know when they change
*Desktop messenger app that alerts you if you are working on an old version of a document
*Flash previews for uploaded files

Obviously the last two are likely to be fairly complicated, but the RSS feed to a document could be pretty useful and (from my limited knowledge of aC code) fairly easy to implement. What do you reckon?

Anyhow, check out Koral and a useful video presentation of it in action for some more ideas.
