Time-tracking
Page: 1
I started expanding the time entry expansion as discussed in http://www.activecollab.com/forums/topic/1342/3/ and I'm looking for some ideas, what people wants to see for time-entry and for time reporting
So far I have:
- paging of time entries (http://www.attiks.com/ac_screenshots/time_paging.png)
- linking time entries to tasklists / task (http://www.attiks.com/ac_screenshots/add_time.png)
- reporting of time entries by tasklist / task (http://www.attiks.com/ac_screenshots/time_report_by_task.png)
- total hours on my projects (http://www.attiks.com/ac_screenshots/my_projects.png)
PS: Ilija, if there's a better way to post pictures, let me know.

What about reporting time entries to projects as well as tasklists? As part of the project listings under the 'My Projects' tab.
proposal:
* total hours on my projects
* link to report with totals per user
* link to report with totals per task list
feedback?

Some info on reporting of time entries by tasklist / task
http://www.attiks.com/ac_screenshots/time_report_by_task.png
After each task_list the total for this task_list is displayed, the reason for this is that it's possible to make time-entries directly on the task_list (in this case 1 hour)
After each task_list is a list of all tasks in this list with all entries ordered by date.

just a thought - it would be really nice is there were some a few key variables so that people could easily customize a report. Similiar to the variables used in a mailmerge type of thing or smarty template. Then all you would have to focus on is putting the various variables in place and then maybe having one (or a few) default templates.

The reports all use a different view, so you can allways customize the view, unless you mean customizing the reports using the adminstrator settings? Can you clarify a bit?
One thing I am looking for in a project management tool is time tracking against estimated time. This would be kind of a count down timer so that as people work on a project and post their hours, the total number of hours left reduces. The whole idea is to get people focused on making good time estimates and getting feedback regarding those estimates.

I like the idea.
For the moment in our version (beta) it's possible to book your time on a task, task_list or on the project. Do you want to be able to make time estimates for each of those? And if yes, this would involve a time estimate for each person working on the project?

I think a way to do time estimates within the beta code that is being produced would be to create a user called "estimate" or something, then submit your estimated hours as a submission. Then you could create a report that compares "estimate's" time vs the total time on task. I think this would also be a flexible solution since in order to implement that type of functionality you are probably looking at pm tool with a larger scope like ms project with sharepoint server or eprojects.com. This is because those type of tools are built from the more classical pm theory of doing resource based planning.
