If you have some items tagged, you can see this 'lumping taxonomy' by manually accessing the project tag browser.

/projects/21/tags/

They are handy where you might want to have an object appear in more than one category. I love tags - they provide me freeform categorization power.

For tags I could not find any use, because there is nothing to select elements by tags. At least I couldn't figure it out.
