I am looking at the $400 version but I have a few questions first.

1. How much access to the source code do I get? 100% of the code?

2. Is any part of the application encrypted?

3. I notice you charge for re-branding, can I do it myself?

4. What actual license is it distributed under?

5. Are there license limitations to what I can do to the code?

I would like to use active collab in conjunction with several other online applications I have built myself and some I have purchased and this will probably require me to make some code changes to active collab itself. I just would like to know how free I am to make those changes.

Thanks.

Hi Danayel,

1. 100% of the code.

2. Not a single line of activeCollab is encrypted.

3. In order to remove activeCollab logo from the footer and activeCollab from page title you need to purchase Corporate Removal license. Option for upgrade is available in Licenses section of your activeCollab.com profile. You can upgrade any license to include Copyright Removal at any time.

4. Proprietary license. You can check it out here.

5. Yes. You are free to modify the code for internal use, but you cannot redistribute code covered by activeCollab License, base new products on our source etc. activeCollab is open, but not open source (as defined by OSI).

6. This forum is build specially for this website. It's even better when you log in as administrator ;) What you see as a user is just a minor part of what it can do.

Thanks for the fast Response Ilija,

I am not interested in distributing the software, (I distribute enough of my own software right now and supporting it all is already a nightmare without active collab too lol) but I am intereted in building it up.

I am hoping to deploy it as part of a larger web application. So there will be no deployment but I wish to sell the use of it as part of the larger integrated application.

Is thsi possible with the license?

Perhaps plugins/bridges might be the way to go.

Reading the license over it looks as though this isn't possible.

Hi Danayel,

Building any service or a product that uses activeCollab code and offering it to others for a fee is prohibited.

Thanks

Hi Ilija,

Have you thought of selling licenses for the forum software?

I would buy a copy, perhaps two :)
