News reader module, simple plugin example

The Dave:
Noticed that the last poster "seems to have it working now". So this question is to all... I would still like to know where the module "create(s) a new tab in the menu called News with RSS feeds". I am sure the module is installed but I can find nary a trace of its presentation in any AC1.0 page.

I'm having the same issue on corporate v1.1.5. I cleared my cache, reloaded, logged out and logged back in, and I see nothing. I performed the database edit to add the module to the list and copied all necessary files.

@Valdemar Super concept! I'm going to try this out now and report any misbehavior I find.

@Ilija This would be something really great to implement with aC since you can imbed RSS from the aC blog right into aC (like Matt Mullenweg has done with WordPress and its dashboard).

Already running into a problem. Since I'm not using standard table prefixes, I had to just insert the new values into the modules table. :)

Okay, more errors.

Fatal error: Modules::require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/pixelit/public_html/clients/activecollab/application/modules/news/NewsModule.class.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/pixelit/public_html/clients/activecollab/application/modules/system/models/modules/Modules.class.php on line 166

Looks like it's asking for a file called NewsModule.class.php in the /news/ folder but that did not ship with the zip you provided. I'll uninstall and wait for further instructions.

Had to restore my database (always make a backup before doing ANYTHING with your site files!) to make the above error go away even tho I deleted both /news folders from the install.

Let me know if you can figure out what might have caused that error and the missing file it seems to be asking for. I would be very much interested in using this module.

Hi Joni,

This module is not compatible with changes made in activeCollab 2. For example, info.php, install.php or uninstall.php files are no longer needed. Instead, implementation is in module class that is named like #ModuleName#Module.class.php. This design is not yet final (we still have a couple of ideas how we can reduce number of files), but we are finalizing it for stable activeCollab 2.
