v1.1 is "frozen" (no new features will be added by the time it is launched) and this feature didn't make it in. We'll see to add this in one of the upcoming versions, but I really cannot provide any details or a timeframe for it.

This would be a nice compromise!

We used to use a system that had that but found it more difficult than it was worth. Essentially it takes at least twice as long to set up tasks and define all the dependencies.

If you really need that, you could look at dotProject, however, I would warn you that we found that system to be bugging. We then switched to Celoxis, a hosted commercial product at about $14/mo/seat. That product worked great but again we decided it was more than we needed and it didn't work well with clients (too complicated).

I understand your request. You want to be able to define strict workflow where tasks need to be executed in specific order and cannot be completed any other way, but the way you defined. It's just that I don't see how it would benefit most of the users.

Dependencies make things so much complicated without providing any REAL benefit. Sorry, but I don't see this feature in activeCollab any time soon, if ever.

Hm, maybe you have an alternative idea. I want to describe a workflow .. for example what to do if a customer gets a new server. Things have to be done, in the right order. Cabling, switch configuration, server installation, monitoring setup, etc.

Task dependencies support is not planned at the moment. We do not think strict workflows are a good idea so we do not plan to introduce features that would enforce them.

We added an easy way to subscribe to tasks (like you can subscribe to tickets and other objects) so you can easily be notified via email when task you are waiting for is completed.

It's not just for notification, but for a strict workflow management.
