Is there any way to get a more compact view of all active projects (preferably organized in groups) on one page?

If by "more compact" you mean not paginated than answer is no.

I'd like to see something that is not paginated, but more imporantly, I'd like to reformat the layout so that more projects can be displayed easily on one page - and so that the projects can be organized into groups. This would allow for a more functional dashboard view.
