I have been playing with the demo for a bit. I am starting to get the hang of it. But one thing I do not understand is. Is it possible to have clients only be able to see what pertains to the them? Meaning I deal with alot of different client and this tool will be valuable for discussion and sharing. But I dont really want them to see all my projects and discussions. Is it possible to have a client only see the project that pertains to them and tasks that pertain to them? I am really new to this program so it could be there and I am not seeing it. Also to rum aC do you have to have a dedicated server or will my existing host suffice? We are moving away from Sitespring (finally) but it does have some cool features that aC seem to be lacking, mainly the separation of clients from others.

Any help clarifying this would be greatly appreciated. Also I heard this software used to be open source, is that true?

Clients can only see projects they are involved in. As well, on checklists, discussions, tickets, etc there is an option to make it only visible to people of the parent company and not visible to clients.

However, there is no way to distingush between clients. You can not, at this time, make a checklist visible to client A and not client B for example.

hhhmmm....I guess either A. I am not understand the terminology or B. The trial is too limiting and I wont understand the terminology :D. Ok so currently I cannot make a new project it seems so I cannot test what you just said. But let me see if I understand. I have project A, for ACME company and Project B for ABC Company. Now each project is separate so ABC has no clue and cannot see ACME's project, therefore knows nothing about it? But ACME can see the checklist or tasks that ABC has going on? How about calendars are their respective calendars separate? I dont mind if both customers can see my calendar or the project owners calendar but at times I do work for clients that actually may be in the same market. So that could be bad for business if they could track each others projects :P

Sorry if I am just comprehending. I know it is more than likely a security issue. But I believe the trial should be opened up a bit more. This product comes highly recommended, but I work with some seriously large corporations that take their privacy serious. So I cannot have leaks from project to project, which it seems like this product doesn't consider. Not bashing at all and not giving up hope on it. But it is just hard to evaluate from my stance.

If the owners read this:
Is there anyway we can be provided a evaluation software that we can analyze from our server? So I can test the whole ball of wax before purchasing?

We take security and privacy seriously. Clients are not aware of anything in any view (calendar, lists, assignments... any view) that does not belong to project they are assigned to and marked as visible to them. These tasks, discussions, tickets etc just don't exist for them and they have no way to access them.

Let me explain how far does it go - demo on http://www.activecollab.com/try is used by you and around 500 - 1000 other companies interested in trying out activeCollab that subscribed in the past couple of days. Have you noticed that you are sharing you demo with someone? Ever? Anywhere? You can access your project and see people of your company and A51 (our company), that's it. You might think that demo is just yours ;-)

You can purchase activeCollab and run it with real people working on real project in real environment for 30 days. If you don't like it we'll return you your money, no questions asked.

Well I totally understand that about the current demo. But that is not to say it would behave the same here, because it seems some functionality is not available. But its nice to know about the money back guarantee. We may go that way with it.
