License file contains information about the address where activeCollab is going to work on.

If you want it to work on http://localhost, set the URL in your Licenses section of your profile at activeCollab.com and we'll approve it as soon as we review the request.

If you want it to work on some other address later, you will need to change the license URL to other one and wait for an approval again, then get the new license.php & use it for another setup.

I have the guide bookmarked and it looks easy enough. It's just the first step that I wasn't sure about.

I haven't installed ActiveCollab on any machine yet, I got brought in after it was already up and running. I didn't understand what the licensing meant as far as requesting a new license.

Would I still need to do that if I were bringing up a server with the same information (although to start out, it might not be using the same exact address for the sake of keeping the current one running as long as possible)?

It's possible to move all the data between servers and different operating systems. Check out migration guide.

I'm new to ActiveCollab and I'm not sure about how the licensing works so this may be an easy issue to address.

The problem is that ActiveCollab is currently installed on a Mac OS X machine that wasn't ever properly set up and is going to be decommissioned and ActiveCollab is going to be moved to a Windows server.

Is there any way to bring AC up on the Windows box to test import the data before we unhook the Mac?

The domain is going to remain the same, the only difference will be the box hosting the site.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
