Not sending emails - GoDaddy hosting

I have installed AdctiveCollab successfully under http://[root]/ac and I used the .htacess to take care of the PHP5 issue.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be sending email. Is this caused by not installing in root? Perhaps I need to add a PHP5 email provision to the .htacess.
If anyone can help out I would appreciate it, thanks.

aC is using mail() function to send emails and everything should be working without any problems if PHP is well configured (SMTP server is set up in the php.ini).
Directory where you installed aC and the way you are rewriting URLs should not make any difference in this case.
