Ilija Studen:harveycassidy:So I had an idea, create a project that would be a "global address book". This would be administratively handled. If everyone is on this "project" (within our company, not clients) then they should be able to see everyone on this list (with your logic). This would be ideal, but I cannot seem to work our the details. Would this hopefully work?
Users can see only people they already worked with before so having one project with all employees added by administrator will solve the problem you have. There is no system permission that can prevent this.
I will have to look into this further, I'm still receiving an error.
I have tried to set it up the following ways:
People are together in an closed project
People are together in an open project
People are together in a global project
But still, no dice. It gives me the following screen when I try to add people in a project.
I'll fiddle around some more and try to figure this out. I feel I have a decent understanding of the program now, so hopefully I can get this :)
Thanks!

Ilija Studen:Sorry, my bad - members of client company can add ONLY people from their own company to projects. They cannot add people from other companies. This can be easily hacked (you need to change one line of code in a proper file) if this feature is an absolute must have for you.
Could you do this and have it incorporated into our demo? /demo/12469
After they discovered the two flaws they want to see them fixed before they purchase this. I was really hoping to demo this tomorrow if possible.
Also, just to verify, no one will be able to edit anyone else's profiles due to this hack correct?

Ilija Studen:Sorry, it is not possible. All demos, free and paid, use same resources so changes cannot be applied to a single demo.
harveycassidy:Also, just to verify, no one will be able to edit anyone else's profiles due to this hack correct?
Correct. Hack I am proposing does not change any permissions related settings. It only remove company filter from Select Users dialog.
Sounds good with me. I'm going to re-create the entire environment today and present it again tomorrow.
Thanks for the quick response!

Two things
#1: How long would the work-around take to create? I imagine it would be in the neighborhood of less than one day?
#2: Can we make a request?
While the global address book project would work, I believe it would only work inter-company. Once we involve outside clients that may need to be in more then one project it could get tricky. Giving the client access to everyone else's information via an address book could be "bad". We would not want two rival companies to see each other.
If we have 1000 users, and user A does not find the correct person (user B) in the address book then they will try to create them. When they create them, they will receive an error that they belong to another company (due to the email address being in use). What about if aC offered to include that user on a project, and then you selected the project?
Would that be possible or time consuming? Also, if we did have a request such as this what is y'alls policy on them? Something you include in the next update....or is it something you try to work out on a case by case basis?
Again, sorry we're not intending to use aC in the manner y'all designed it for. Using aC for project management is definetly an idea we're throwing around, but if we could use it for this current project then that'll make everything that much better for us.
Thanks for all of your help, despite myself being the only one who contacts you there are a lot of other people who are thankful :)
