Renaming things

Hi there,
[I know this might seem pedantic, but I'm in the process of teaching non-techies how to use this system and I need all the help I can get...]
I'd like to rename Discussions > Forum and Discussion > Thread etc. etc.
I've found the relevant lang_index.php files and renamed everything there... but nothing has changed!
Please help...

Lang index is NOT translation file - it is just index of phrases used in a given module. It is used by translation tools to offer list of phrases that can be translated.
To actually translate something you will need to create a new language (as described here), create new translation files and make proper changes in them.
