Time Budgets

I'd like to see a feature to allocate a specific budget for hours spent on a specific project. Say Project A is budgeted for 100 hours. John logs in 10 hours, and there is a progress bar similar to the task completed to show how much of that budget has been spent already.

Can we possibly get this in a next release? Doesn't seem too complicated. If not, I may look into adding it myself.

On top of that, it'd be nice when the budget is getting down tight on hours to send out an email notification to the people involved. :)

This feature is not planned for the next release. We'll consider it for future release, but if you need it soon safest bet would be to develop it on your own.

If I built onto the timetracking module, would that cause me an issue when it comes time to upgrade to say, 1.1.3 when that becomes available? Or is there a way I can do that cleanly in a separate module, and tie it in with the timetracker?

Best would be to add it as a separate module. You can read more about module architecture in this series of blog posts (it's not complete yet, but you can already find many useful information in these articles) or by analyzing existing modules

I would be interested in this feature as well. We always project hours for each task and it would be great to see the actual billable hours against the total hours. Additionally, it would be nice to have a "client" facing progress bar where they don't have access to the timesheets but just see the progression bar. Finally it would be nice to assign hours to a task. I have played with a trial of Harvest and it would be nice to see some of the feature set migrate into activeCollab.

You can track time and add it to a task. There is a little clock icon on the right. It enables you to review time already tracked and submit new records without living the page.

We'd be very interested in the time budget feature also. We've already looked into developing this, but it would be great if it was a core feature in some future release.
