Do users have access to Create project?

Do users have access to creating projects or just the administrators?

From what I assumed that there should be multiple levels of access.

administration - allow creation of users and below
power user - allow creation of projects and below
manager - allow assign and creation to tasks and below
normal user - allow creation of tasks to yourself


Or something to that affect. Currently, if I'm not mistaken only admins can add projects and users and view... correct (unless they have writes access to it

Only admins can create projects. Normal members of owner company and clients cant create projects.

would it be possible to change that? or is there reasons for that decision?

No special reason. It just makes sense for most of the applications.

allowing the user to create projects would be nice.. is this something that I could easily do.. possibly twaek the backend for now.. or is it more complex?

As Ilija says a lot this time, don't hack too much code now. There is some kind of completely code rewriting at this moment. So your hack may not work in few days.
What a waste of time :P

Just have a question, what admin's rights don't you want to give at project creator users ?

I definitely would like to see something like what grrreat has outlined above. I recently started using activeCollab, and I thinkg it's great. One thing that I feel is lacking, though, is a a more in-depth user management system.

For example: I am IT admin for my company, so it makes sense that I should have the ability to make configuration changes, add users, etc. Then there's the GM of the company, who should fall into something like the 'power user' role above. ie. he should be able to create and manage projects, but not add users or make config changes to the system. Then there's the project manager, and so-on and so-forth.

At the moment, the choice of only 'admin' or 'user' is not enough. I would love to see a more multi-tiered user management system :)

I second that request. All of my users need to be able to create and manage their own projects, but I don't want them to be able to edit the system configuration, or perform other admin things. I would suggest a 'custom user' option as well, with a list of permissions that can be checked/unchecked such as:

- System Admin Rights (system configuration)
- Admin All Projects (IT Manager or CIO may need to manage all projects, but not the system configuration)
- View All Projects (a manager may want to oversee everything, but doesn't need to edit)
- Post Messages/Comments to All Projects (a manager could comment on any project, but not edit it)
- Create New Projects (other users may need to create their own, more personal, projects)
- etc.

Agree as well. First thing I noticed after installing was that I couldn't figure out how to grant permission for a non-admin to create projects.

We are using AC for "internal clients" (divisions within a company), so I was planning on creating "Clients" such as Human Resources, Finance, etc. Then, it would be helpful to be able to grant users permission to manage such groups. Logically, the head of the HR department would be able to create HR projects -- but not change system settings or create users, etc.
