Ilija and team: Do you plan to enhance searching / filtering across the board in ac 3? Anything you can say about it? We have thought about extending search feature, but don't want to do it if you are working on it!

Hello Nirav,

Yes, we'll work on search feature for the next release. Changes may be smaller, just to improve quality of search result, or something a bit more radical - we haven't decided just yet.

hi Illja, do you have any schedule for next release? We have more and more problems with searching tickets.
avatar Ilija Studen Staff Mar 22. 2010. 11:25 am
There's no due date set for the next release (we never discuss due dates or upcoming features until release gets into beta).

Moderation Note: Comment on assignment filtering and time reports has been moved into a new topic (Time Reports and Assignment Filtering without Creating a Report or a Filter).

As of last week we officially no longer use Active Collab, it's just imposible to track who did what when as the number of entries grew...
I reverted to emails until, hopefully, we get some useful search engine within Active Collab.

Regards

Miroslav

Miroslav -- I'd be interested to hear more about the challenge you had, and how the search feature would have helped you specifically. I personally understand the search feature needs improvement but your specific mention of "who did what when" makes me curious if maybe another feature or module would have helped your ActiveCollab experience.

Have you tried the Assignments Filters or the Reports Module (from Appsmagnet) --- if you'd prefer not to talk about it here, please send me an email... maybe there's a creative solution to your frustration...

Hi tekt.

I will post it here, as it might help others in similar situation.

We process data from many data providers, and to do that we have built some 20 group of processes scheduled at various frequencies, total of about 100 daily processes, and each of it can raise exceptions. Every exception have to handled, with tracking etc...
We used to use AC to:
1. Document solutions
2. Keep track of exceptions, with how-to documentation
3. Manage new development

In order to manage high frequency entries, with low frequency entries, we have created some fake hierarchy with names of project groups, but it became very hard to find specific entries in large database and get info without browsing through many many results of the search.

I will take a look at Appsmagnet, but I don't think it will help me with the narrowing down the search.

Thanks,

Miroslav

Thank you

I agree that the search function is terrible and has become a real issue of late as the amount of information we store and rely on in ActiveCollab has increased.

Does anyone have any further suggestions on how to improve this? Nirav's feedback is great but not too keen on hacking ActiveCollab in case it breaks something.

Effectively there is no search at all currently. just simply being able to find something in the documentation (Pages) section is impossible, and makes the whole Pages feature useless. Anything else you may be looking for returns less than helpful results.

This appears to be something that should be addressed system wide, meaning that no developer outside of AC will likely be willing to tackle it. Looks like one of those issues that needs to be resolved by someone willing to hack the system themselves.

We are pretty close to doing just that, since we are embedding the pages of (some) projects inside another software solution by directly querying the system and displaying it via an Ajax solution. (User guides)
