There are times that I'd like to send a stored document (in the new Docs module) to a non-registered-user of the system and I don't want to trouble them with having to sign up, choose a password, etc. This is usually for pre-sales activities, before they sign a contract and become a customer. After they are a customer, it is natural to add them to the server and have them choose a password, but if I'm just sending out a large PDF prospectus, I'd like to be able to have aC send them a coded URL with a magic link. Something like:
that would get them to the file for download, but no access to any project or the rest of the site. The link would be coded so it could only be used a certain # of times or up until a certain date before the link auto-expires. This is for security reasons, because you don't want someone to pass around a link to a file and have it be unlimited downloads.
Also it would be useful (since there's no other way to track it) to get an email notification whenever the file is downloaded -- see other suggestion.
One of the base design decisions behind activeCollab is that all your project data is secure behind login screen. We do not have plans to change that in the near future and offer public access to documents - people who wish to see a document or a task or a project etc will need to log in to access it.
That's how we plan to keep the system in the near future. If you need a different behavior, you can implement it as a module.
But communication on email are incomplete. We create ticket and attach document, image and notes and want our team to comunicate on email to be faster or be able to send that idea to different people who they don't have account. But non of images and document are showing on email.
Also it is simple under File section we will be able to send share link for each file by email to anyone. Those share options can be limited by time and download.
these are necessity these days in business and it counts as a lack. My client all are complaining of the complication of downloading files from the site. They wan to download documents with one click on their email instead.
That would be appreciate if you rethink.
It won't hurt the system, it would be by admin choice.
Thanks
