I'm new to activeCollab and having just come from Basecamp the first thing I've noticed are the much slower page load times.

The average time from mouse click to full loaded page, say from a project dashboard to checklists, is 3-4 seconds for me. This seems very unresponsive and I am wondering if it's something to do with the configuration I have, perhaps my web host or the mysql database or something more general?

activeCollab Version: 2.0.3, smallbiz
Web Host: Dreamhost
Platform: PHP (5.2.6), MySQL (5.0.67-log)

activeCollab is not a small script and it may have problems on shared hosts that oversell their resources. Average load time is bellow 1 second (~0.5 depending on the page and amount of that system needs to load and display). If it goes above 1 second, we recommend that you ask for better performing server or change host.

When picking server, we recommend that you go with setup where you have your resources guaranteed, not shared, so VPS plans are highly recommended. We can recommend Tilted from personal experience and we also heard a lot of good stuff about VPS plans offered by SliceHost.

So it's all to do with the host then. Is there any tweaking I can do if I'm unable to move to a different host?

I'm now experiencing delays of up to 10 seconds when switching from a project's Dashboard tap to Discussions.

Sorry, if there were any easy tweaks, they would be built into the system :) Good host is essential for good performance.

Understood. Thank you for the help.

I'm now experimenting on a new host and the difference is night and day. Much faster and very close to the load times you mentioned.
