Understood :) So do you have a later version of that code that you'd be willing to DM me or is this what we've got? I'm planning to do some surgery regardless, just trying not to re-invent the wheel. thanks again.

First, apologies for not having monitored this thread in a long while. A lot has happened and I actually moved on to another company last year. Anyway, I have installed AC there as well. But since my day-job is to build another huge web app, I haven't had time to work on customizing AC.

The main issue with the existing code is that it is so tailored to the prev company that I'm not sure how easy it'll be to make it more generic. I am planning to use it myself at some point, but I too would need to make changes.

Anyway, that's the lay of the land as it stands right now.

Thanks ..

Hi Martin,

I just came across this thread and really appreciate what you've offered here.. it looks like it will give us a big head start on the changes we're trying to make to get our AC instance up and running.

I noticed that the latest post was some time ago. I'm wondering if you now have a more current version of the code that you're willing to share? If not, we'll make do with what's here.

Thanks!

First, apologies not not responding sooner. It's been a very busy Fall and Winter. Anyway, I've made literally tons of changes to AC, and we're now using v2.3. The big problem, and also the reason for not posting my patches, is that we're not talking about small patches anymore. I'm literally tailoring the product to our needs. We've added so many function features and even changed/added to the DB structure.

For example, we use activity codes for time tracking which allows us to link work on a given task to an accounting code. This means that the engineer can log his/her time against a task in the project, but in addition to describing what he/she did, the engineer must also select an activity type from a drop-down list.

The list of avialable activities depends on the project type (e.g. a "maintenance project" will have some activities, which a "presales project" may not have, etc.). In addition to project types, activity types we also track budgeted hours on a per project basis (and soon on a task level).

We have a "status tab" (a new sep tab on project view) which shows more complete project info (both data and graphs) such as hours spent per activity type, hours billed and still to be billed, etc. We've added features such as "select/clear all" on the Time tab in the project view and on and on.

We also allow you to group project by PM (originally it's just by "client" and group") and we have a tab that shows all "unassigned" projects (i.e. that have not been assigned to a group.

We have a "draft status" which mean that a project is active, but hidden. It allows senior PMs and admins to create projects at the same time as we write the statement of work (SoW). The AC system assigns a unique project code which we then use on th SoW and in other systems. The project is changed to "active" as soon as the client signs off and we begin work.

We also assign one of 5 trend levels to projects. The trend level and additional status info (issues, risks, escalation, etc.) are discussed during our weekly conference calls.

And there are tons of small and subtle changes. I've created, modified, and added new jQuery files and libraries, Smarty helper files, new tpl files, new objects, changed lots of core objects (because there was no other way), and evwen changed the DB schema. In other words: creating a patch out of this is not easy, which is why I put that idea aside for now. It's a lot of work to go though all these changes when a new version of AC comes out. As I mentioned, we're using v2.3, but I'm not sure that I will upgrade further.

We have lots of new features planned (e.g. cost tracking, more non-Flash-based reports, tracking vacation time, travel expenses, etc.) and requests are now coming in from other departments asking us if we can integrate into this or that system. In short, we're moving ahead full speed.

Thanks ..

Sounds like really interesting patch, could anyone provide any screenshots please? A picture counts as thousands words ;)

The problem with the patches is that you have to check and re-check every time a new release of core application has been released.

As I understood through the discussion of this topic this patch does not work for 2.2 and over versions of AC right?

Thanks in advance
