Hi,

I am moving my site to a different host, and I'm wondering what the process is to move everything over. I am hoping I don't have to reinstall everything since I have projects going on as well as many contacts, messages, etc.

I look forward to your response.

It is possible to move activeCollab to another server without a data loss. Please check this article for details: Moving activeCollab to Another Server.

What happens if I already moved all the files to the new server without being able to export the database? Do I have to reinstall activeCollab again?

Process is explained in Moving activeCollab to Another Server:

1. Install a fresh copy to the new server. You'll need to install the same version you have on your old server
2. Move data from old setup (list of things that you need to move is provided in the article)
3. Upgrade to the latest version if required

This is a well tested process that works and you should stick to it. Change it only if you know what you are doing. If you already started migration, but not as described, revert back and start over.

What happens if moved the files without being able to export the database? Is the database file inside the files somehow?

Data you insert in system (tickets, tasks, discussions, comments etc) is stored in the database and if you don't move it to the new server, you'll not be able to use it. Only information that is stored in files is binary data of files you upload, but that is also useless if you don't migrate the database because file meta information (name and type) is also stored in the database.
