My suggestion builds on this discussion, about "Cutting back on all the clicking". I think it would be very beneficial if aC automatically brought clients to their "project dashboard" on login, if they only have one project that they are assigned. Currently, a client logs in and is greeted by a "master dashboard" showing Recent Activities and Active Projects. In my opinion, it would be far less confusing if they were brought directly to the project dashboard for their one project. This displays the exact same info from the "master dashboard" in addition to the project info, progress, upcoming milestones and people.

With the current setup, I find myself having to tell customers to login, click the Active Projects tab, select your one project, then go to the Files section.

How does everyone else feel about this request? Are there any drawbacks that I'm overlooking?

I agree with Ben's suggestion, but I understand why a Dashboard is necessary if a client is assigned to more than one project.

The greyed Active Projects tab is the problem - clients just don't see it. Why not simply combine the Dashboard page with the Projects listing page? Place the assigned projects list in the right-hand column on the dashboard. It would also reduce the number of clicks.

Why?
I recently discovered after an odd exchange of emails that a few of my clients never ever clicked past the dashboard and "found" the project listing page. They never knew they could upload files or check progress or participate in their project beyond the updates that appeared on the dashboard. I was stunned to say the least, but it was a good lesson in usability and user-knowledge.

As a result, I created a visual guide and placed it in global docs for all of my clients. Not perfect, but solved the problem.

This feature would be very useful to me. Many of my clients have asked for this very thing. So add third vote for this feature.

I used to use Factory Nova for project management before activeCollab. They implemented this feature of sending users belonging only to one project directly to that project's overview on login. After upgrading I received tons of comments/praise from my customers, because they were no longer met with confusion upon login.

New configuration setting for doing that is in the works.

I cannot promise anything about release date when we will include this config option.

I agree... I have taken to just hacking the source code to redirect clients to the project listing and not to the "recent activities" screen, but I would prefer for this to be a standard feature.

I agree with #2: I have some clients who never even NOTICED the "active projects" tab and would constantly tell me "I dont see any projects listed at all". I finally had to do a remote-control livemeeting of their computer to understand what they meant.
