I have worked through my projects and identified a critical path of activities that absolutely must be done throughout the duration of the project. We have a large number of other tickets and tasks that can be done at any time around these critical elements and I am looking to differentiate the critical elements for each project from the others, the overall aim being to be able to not only view the CP at a glance and report on it and hopefully one day template this differentiation for other projects that follow the same process.
My current thoughts are leading me to consider creating a "Critical Path" category and assigning the relative tickets to the category, this would then allow me to click on the category to see the tickets that are left to do in a list view etc.
We also have the planning module plugged in and it is going great only I am looking for a way to display this critical path in there as well.. Does anyone know of something I can do to highlight critical path in both the planning module and in the tickets list?
We were thinking about using the importance feature (the red arrows) but it would then conflict with the way we use this for our staff around go live time...
Any help and/ recommendations or even stories on what you are currently doing would be very beneficial.
Critical Path is surely one of the core project management principles. Unfortunately, there is no clear way to set items on critical path with both activeCollab and Planning module for now.
Your idea of creating a critical path category is good, while most would have used the priorities - the red arrows - to define items that are more important. If you used the priority, you can sort ticket list by priority to see their status. Tickets will be shown sorted by priority and grouped in milestones.
