It's very awkward: since tabs and spaces are stripped even off the 'preformatted' style, making anything table-ish is impossible.

putting my vote in behind a decent text editor with table support, be that your internal one or the TinyMCE (which, as a web developer, is an easily maintainable option). Tables are one of the few options I'm really missing.

Table support is something that we are considering for one of the upcoming releases, but we do not have any solid plans at the moment. TinyMCE is not going to be part of activeCollab 3 (we're going with custom, simpler and lighter editor).

A full installation of TinyMCE allows for this with a couple more buttons on the toolbar. Is there any chance we can have the option to enable tables within the body of a ticket text? It would be very helpful. There are some things that just don't make sense as a bulleted list and need to be in table format.
