I know many people use AC with Projects per client and then Tickets as subprojects ... for this scenario (and even the standard setup) it would be great to have the ability to group tasks into subheadings within the ticket.
Having the same drag and drop capability as other elements in AC would also be great for this feature. It would help to organize these tasks that build up in the Ticket to make it less overwhelming and more functional.
Thank you for the suggestion. At the moment we do not have plans to add another layer of organization on top of tags. Instead we'll see to keep them as simple as possible.
Hi Ilija -- thanks for the response. I am not sure if my initial request was clear --- because I think tags would not be related to the request. What I was referring to was more of a visual way to organize tasks inside a ticket. For instance if I ticket had 10 tasks associated to it --- if I could have 3 heading and associate some of those tasks via drag and drop to the other headings.
I'm attaching a very rough mockup of the idea, hopefully that clarifies it -- I would think this would not be too complicated... I could create a workaround by just using ALL CAPS for some tasks and not assign them... but ideally it would be nice to have an organizational feature inside the ticket tasks.
Thank you for the clarification. I understood your request right away, but misspleed tasks (wrote tags :(( ).
Even though it looks simple on the mockups, there are a couple of gotchas:
1. There needs to be interface for adding, removing and updating groups. This means - MORE interface elements. We are working to reduce amount of interface needed to accomplish something for the next big release, not to add more.
2. Mixing groups and tasks - this makes model a bit more complex (not imposible to maintain, but it still adds complexity), dragging and dropping, list of completed tasks etc.
3. API needs to be updated accordingly.
etc. Interesting thing about software development is that new features are never simple, no matter how trivial they seam, especially as product matures and gets in size.
Thank you for the suggestion, we really appreciate it and pretty much like the idea, but our focus for the next big release is in different areas and I double we'll play with this any time soon.
Fair enough --- I'm going to play with a workaround using ALL CAPS for headings using the tasks feature to see if that's enough to give me what I need in the meantime.
I apologize for saying "not too complicated" -- I know all too well that what might appear small has a lot of underlying implications with how other things work etc --- I think what I was intending to say was more ... I hope this wouldn't be too complicated.
Now that I hear it is, I'll see what I can do as a work around -- one of my favorite things about AC , there's enough flexibility to find your own way to use the existing feature set.
So I'll play around... if anyone else is interested in something like this, let me know... I'd be curious, and maybe we can brainstorm together some work around ideas.
Having the same drag and drop capability as other elements in AC would also be great for this feature. It would help to organize these tasks that build up in the Ticket to make it less overwhelming and more functional.
