Understand and agree about the registered user access only. I have many projects where I need to give, say, a coder access to certain files but not necesarily a whole project. Perhaps in the filemanager when you add folder functions, user permissions could be assigned ona folder basis, and then i could email a message with the file link in it to specific users. Then they would only be able to access that folder.

I've had this same prob in basecamp. If i need to send a source file to a printer, or to another ad agency, but i don't want to set up a whole new project. In basecamp, i've had to reupload to a whole new project and then give someone access to that project, as opposed to letting them browse the whole other project folder.

Ilija Studen:
This can be added when we solve some more important problems, but with one limitation: you will need to send notification to existing user. Public access to project files is not allowed. Everything is behind the login...

yep, i think its very important to keep everything "behind the login", if you are using activeCollab in productional/business environment this is ultra important. I think the people that will get notified by "file is ready for download" are only project workers, admins, or clients.

Ilija Studen:
Go to file, click on notify users link, select who will get the link, insert some optional comment and hit send?

that would be great, or you get something like a checkbox in the "file-upload" dialog "notify user/users of file-upload" via mail. a little textbox for entering a message like "hi ppl, file is ready, cheers!" would be nifty.

cheers!

So, maybe something like message notifications? Go to file, click on notify users link, select who will get the link, insert some optional comment and hit send?

that a very good idea.

i would recommend adding a "mail link-to-file" to a defined user, or in this case a client-company user.

so you can send them pdf reports or whatever, and they need to use their login (security you know)

cheers from berlin

Often, we keep files stored online like in active collabe and need to send a specific file to a vendor or new partner. It would be good if i could go into the files section, choose a file, and email a link to that file to someone. They could be a user or non user, whatever is ewasier for you to implement. This is a far more powerful feature than emailing a file to someone as the files can be very large...
