Just as a matter of interest, why do you all want a Chat in the site?

I think there are enough system around for internally Instant Messaging.

And you can also give Jabber a chance if you want it free in every kind.

It make sense to have all project related communication in one place (including tasks, messages, even chat discussions).

Here is a real life example - I switched to Mac somewhere around New Year and I use Adium for chat (ICQ and Jabber only). On PC I used Trillian Pro. Now, I can't import old history from Trillian so I sometimes need to turn on my PC, boot Windows, login and open Triallian just to find a file that project manager sent me last October. Too much work IMO.

With web based solution everything is online, searchable and integrated with project management tool.

So, I see benefit of chat plugin, but ONLY if it is well implemented.

Ok, but considering this, I think there are more important things to do actually, before it goes to Chat.

But with searchable history, and topics of course (to set what mile one is talking about) it makes sense.

If someone made a chat program similar to Campfire with the search functionality and user listing. As well as images and files uploaded and it could be on my server and skinned to match in with my site completely I would pay for that. I would pay good money for that in fact.

If only there was though :(
