Ready to do some testing?

activeCollab 0.7 is pretty important version because it brings many bug fixes and some nice new features (I still need to sit and write detailed release notes). There are some known problems with activeCollab 0.6 and I tried to fix most of them. It is not yet finished but we need to test it on more than two machines I generally use for testing.

Important notes, please read before you download and install this version:

  • There is no upgrade script and it is not an easy job to transfer existing data to a new system. Wait for a full 0.7 to be able to upgrade.
  • Mailing will not work unless you provide a valid SMTP server. Check out this ticket for details.
  • All you IIS users - please test the installer and file upload. There are some major problems with activeCollab 0.6 and file uploading when installed on IIS so we should get this one right this time
  • Go through language files and check the spelling. My English is still not good
  • Known problems with installation on MySQL versions older than 4.1.

Download:

If you find any problems report them on activeCollab forum.

/install folder is moved in /public. Now you can finally install activeCollab the way it was planned: system files behind the document root and only public files in document root.

One of those small changes that 0.7 is full of. People will hardly notice them, but they are present and they improved the whole system a lot.

hi, what svn revision is the beta?

And .. will you make major (ie breaking) database changes between the beta and the “final” 0.7 release? ie .. can I enter data with some confidence it should be able to make it through?

thanks very much!!!!

There should be no major DB changes from 0.7 beta to full 0.7. There are some bugs that are still open but they don’t require any database construction changes.

Thanks for the report, fix has been made and included in beta. New downloads will not have problems with it and those people who do have problems should check out #2 in this post.

Thanks for the public beta test, if I find any problems I’ll be sure to give you guys a shout.

One question, though, do you anticipate any significant changes that would make an activeCollab 0.7 install incompatible w/ the beta?

Hi,

There should be no major changes. Few bugs need to be fixed (mailing is most critical one), few things will be added (logging for easier debugging, RSS and upgrade script for all those folks who use 0.6) + few minor enhancements. But, nothing major…

If you are starting with activeCollab start from beta ;)

Not sure if there are other IIS folks out there but when initially trying to install I received the error that the “config/config.php” was not writable.

To fix this I had to add the default IIS user ([machinename]\IUSR_[machinename]) to the security profile of the activeCollab folder and give it “modify” permissions.

For those that need to know how … – Go to the IIS Admin for your computer and right click on the name of your web site. By default it’s listed as “Default Web Site”. – Now go to the “Directory Security” tab and click on the “Edit” button listed under the “Authentication and Access Control” section. – The username is the “IIS_ …” value listed in the Username field on the next page … copy this. – Next open up the windows explorer and navigate to your “activecollab” directory. – Right click on the activecollab directory and choose “Sharing and Security” from the popup list. – Click “add” then provide the name in the blank field. The format should be ”[machineName]\[IISuserName]”; click OK. – Give the newly added username modify permisssions.

Your config/config.php should now be OK.

For those using IIS, in order to make the install recognize “config/config.php” as writable, I had to add the default internet user to the “Sharing and Security” tab of the activeCollab directory and giving it “modify” permissions.

Sorry for being clueless…

The directory structure to my web files looks like the following

/users/home/myname/domains/mydomain.com/web/public/index.html

I can only access up to the /users/home/myname/ level via ftp.

Where do I put the files from the download (I have tried a couple different ways and all failed).

Thanks

If your /public folder is empty and you are using it only for activeCollab you should put installation files in:

/users/home/myname/domains/mydomain.com/web/

and overwrite content of /public folder.

If not, than you should put installation somewhere in:

/users/home/myname/domains/mydomain.com/web/public/

Maybe in:

/users/home/myname/domains/mydomain.com/web/public/collab/

If you don’t have permissions to access that folder you should consult your tech support and see what the problem is. activeCollab just need to be in document root, at least content of public folder.

Fixed – it was a bad file upload causing the problem and I was misunderstanding your original instructions (I was trying too hard!)

Made a clean install, everything was successful. It told me to go and start using it and all that I get is “Error: We are sorry, but a fatal error prevented activeCollab from running. An error report has been sent to the administrator.”

@Paul (and everybody):

When you get that kind of error you need to open config/config.php and turn DEBUG mode on (set its value to true). When youa are done with that refresh page and you will get detailed error report. Send it to me (ilija.studen@activecollab.com) and we’ll figure out what the problem is.

I found the problem with debug on and a little help from the forums. You should note that old installs need to be completely removed (or figure out a way to have a new install not reference them).

After reinstalling and getting everything working, I was messing around. Everything worked great until I tried to create a new user, at which point the save happened (in the database), but not a single activeCollab dynamic page would load. Checking the error logs would tell me that php5.cgi script was terminating too early. That’s all the information that I’ve found. Don’t know how to fix it.

I like the new mods a lot…this project is sweet. However, I’m having a prob viewing the files I uploaded. I get this:

Order by: filename (a-z) | date and time
Page: (1)
Thursday, 7 September

and no view of the of the image. I see a summary when I upload text based files but not for images.

Also iCal does work for me…

I was also looking for the install folder…sorted that out after reading though the comments. But I made the error of deleting the db and starting form scratch so I’ll do the 0.6 wit data and the upgrade to 0.7. But so far all i good I love the tabs in the Admin Section (Configuration, Tools and Upgrade) and the fact that Client only see Users assigned to the same project they’re working on…

Paul,

I’m no Ilija, but I had that same problem. I’ve noticed that sending of email is a blocker for 0.7 at the moment – did you attempt to send an email to the newly registered user? I think that that’s the reason it failed for me.

I remember reading about ActiveCollab quite awhile and ago. I showed up and tried one of the early releases and walked away not-impressed. I thought this project would go away and die.

I owe you deepest apologies. I’ve been looking for a replacement for Basecamp again for a project and out of desperation came back here again and tried out .7 beta. Wow… you’ve come a long way and I’m extremely impressed.

Here’s to you and the AC community for doing a fine job of keeping things moving. After reading the roadmap and the blog I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead.

I realize this comment thread is to report bugs but I figured you could use a brief break from bugs to hear something positive ;)

Installation error: activeCollab is already installed – How do I get past this… I have deleted 0.6 but can’t get past this message.

Sean,

I’m guessing you just need to delete your ActiveCollab tables from your database. I’m fairly new to AC so this is just a guess.

NOTE: This, of course, deletes any old info you have which is good if you want to start fresh with .7 but bad if you want to upgrade.

Have you deleted the database? I’ve deleted the database and the installation directory completely (your FTP/SFTP app might not delete the directory if you’ve got an .htaccess file in it), uploaded the latest version and had version 0.7 up and running in minutes.

I guess I’d make sure that you’ve completely removed it – also, try putting it in a directory with a different name from the first.

Hope that this helps!

I am having the same error occur as Gabre Mentions above. I can load a word document or pdf, but if I load an image AC7 tries to display the image and breaks with the information displayed:

Order by: filename (a-z) | date and time
Page: (1)
Thursday, 7 September

Looking at the database the image appears to have loaded correctly as the data is there. I just can’t view the image from AC after loading. I have tried to remove file structure and DB and rebuild but get the same result… I’ll post this in the forums under bug report as well, just wondering if anyone including Gabre found a fix for this.
Cheers,
Gregg

Can check in your php.ini if GD is enabled? I forgot to add it to the installer check.

GD was indeed the issue. I also needed to all libjpeg-devel and libpng-devel via rpm. All is well. Thanks
