Next is: transition, a lot of broken code and a few new features.
Broken...

Here is some info for all of you who are checking on the development process or living on the edge by using the code from the SVN repository. Next few weeks will be really bumpy and a lot of code in SVN will be broken. Planned changes and transitions:

  • Code will be changed to use extraction of activeCollab framework - Angie. Framework itself is far from being finished, but only way to actually see how everything is working is to use it in a real world application. Also, this is a great test to see what features are still missing and to add them (integration with a good JavaScript library, improvements on date and time handling etc).
  • New system resources will be introduced. This resources will make plugin development a whole lot easier, but they need to be tested first so they are introduced before plugin support.
  • There are some new features that will be added. Most notable are enhancements on Task section (that section was neglected in 0.6 and 0.7) and light-weight time tracking module.
  • Interface project will be launched in the next few days. Goal of that project is to get community involved in the development of new activeCollab interface. Details will be provided when we launch that side project.
There are no deadlines set for this release. You can always check the bugtracker to see the progress.

Its been a while since we released 0.7 RC2. Lets see what is open for 0.7 so we can finally finish it up

From various reasons I haven't been able to work on 0.7 branch for past few weeks even though we come so close to the releasing "stable" version. Purpose of this post is to see what are your impressions on 0.7 RC2 and to see if this list of problems is complete. So, here are the questions:

  • RSS is working as expected?
  • iCalendar is working as expected in major calendar applications?
  • There are no crashes (except those in Account section reported here)?
  • Anything else? Your comments?

Lets see what are open loops for 0.7 and finish it up. That way we'll be able to rollout a stable release that is way better than 0.6, with complete upgrade tool and possibility to create one-click installation in a matter of minutes.

A small, but important step forward

Out website has gone through minor reconstruction during this weekend:

  1. There is a centralized user database. If you had an account on old forum you will be able to login with your old username and password. Registration is required if you wish to post on forum. Commenting is also a bit easier when you are logged in because you don't need to enter your personal data all over again (remembering data in a cookie for unregistered people should be provided in the near future).
  2. Forum is completely redone and integrated with the website. Old topics and posts are preserved, but there are some cases where character set conversion (from latin1 to utf8) made some pretty strange things. I would like to say thanks to Ivana and Sekjur.com for providing hosting for old forum. You helped us when we needed it the most and I hope that we'll be able to help back in the future.

Idea is to provide a website that will let people easily get involved with the project. Working on documentation and tutorials, helping other users when they have problems, sharing translation, templates and plugins etc should be easy and without hacks. This set of changes is just the first step. Things that are coming soon are website search, translation repository and wiki-like content management for website pages.

If you find any problems on the website or script just does not behave as expected please report back so we can fix it.

We are moving to a new server so there could be some problems with the website

Thanks to great people from Tilted we got a nice, little dedicated machine that we can use to build an infrastructure that will support growing community of activeCollab users and its development.

While we move things around and connect bits and peaces back together there can be some problems. Everything should get back to normal by the end of the week.

Thanks for the patience.
