It seems that tasks really needed some improvement. You made it very clear - something had to be done. Although we liked loved the simplicity of the current solution, we knew you needed more firepower. So, out with the old? Not really. We kept the old "task list" with a few minor tweaks and also added a separate, even more powerful task management module. If you need it - use it!

Checklists module

We renamed the "task list" to "checklist". You define a list of tasks and go through them. Simple? Quite...

Tasks can now also have priorities and due dates. You can assign a task to anyone, a single user or a group of users. Also, the interface is more usable and looks far better:

Tickets module

Of all the things in activeCollab, tickets are the feature that the team has used the most. Tickets are bigger tasks that may require subtasking, team discussion or client approval. Need more information, screenshots, related documents? Here is what you get:

  1. Tickets can have priorities, due dates and multiple assignees just like tasks
  2. A full description field and support for unlimited file attachments lets you provide everything and the kitchen sink
  3. You can comment on tickets
  4. You can subscribe to ticket changes and get notified when a ticket's status changes or someone posts a comment
  5. Tickets can behave just like a checklist and have an unlimited number of tasks attached to it
  6. Use ticket categories to organize them with ease

One ticket from activeCollab 1.0

And don't forget to subscribe to our newsletter. When activeCollab launches, you'll be the first to know!

Is there the built in ability to have the ability to change how a ticket is closed – such as “Duplicate” etc
avatar Anon 2007-09-04 2:57
Is there an ability for tickets to have dependencies? That would be useful!
avatar Ilija Studen 2007-09-04 3:47
@Jase: Thanks! :)

@Michael: We wanted to add Resolutions but it didn’t fit with one click completion of a task / ticket so we removed it. If you really want to mark something just tag the ticket or prefix summary with [DUPLICATE].

@Anon: No dependencies in 1.0. We’ll see for future versions :)

Task dependencies would be great. specially when the associated child task is notified by mail that they are able to proceed once the parent task is completed.

Wow! Ticketing is a very nice surprise feature for 1.0.

Question: do you have to be a “user” in ActiveCollab in order to submit a ticket? ie, can we make a form available to non-users who just want to put in a request for work or notify us of a problem that they found?

Followup question, in case you DO have to be a user to submit: Is there an automated way to request a user account?

Thanks much –

Tickets can be created by anonymous users through API.

Hi,

Could you provide us with the estimated launch date? That is interesting to me. I need now such a tool and would be happy to know whether it makes sense to wait on it now.

Thanks a lot! All the best
Eric

Great work and design!

Would be nice to have a “Subscribe all ticket/task members”. Eg. When you click the subscribe button, you can choose to subscibe just yourself, or all owners of tasks in a ticket (All owners get an email message saying “You are noe subscribed to ticket #234. Click this link to access the ticket online”.

This way I could as a projectleader set up a ticket with tasks (and who on my team that is responsible for doing the specific tasks), then click Subscibe all, and all members would be informed about the new ticket/tasks they are involved in.

Looking forward for the release! :)

Where can we download version 0.7 ?
avatar Ilija Studen 2007-09-06 3:10
activeCollab 0.7.1 is still available on the old download page.
avatar Helmi 2007-09-10 4:16
Ilja, will 1.0 be compatible to 0.7.x and is there any rough timeframe? (a month, a year, a decade?) g
avatar Goran Radulović 2007-09-11 1:41
activeCollab 1.0 will have ac0.7 importer, so there’s no need to worry about your existing data.

Things look like they are progressing nicely. I have a few questions.

Right now I am using tick to track time and their widget for windows and mac, will you have something similar to that, a time tracking widget?

Will there be a trail version available with all features? Perhaps you can make it so that it is a full version trial and expires in X amount of days for someone to try. I know that one gripe I have about some new web 2.0 applications is the limited version, well I don’t want to have to pay to try the features then decided I hate them and not get a refund.

I have read previously that AC was to launch at the end of the summer, well it appears that the summer is over, what is the projected date?
avatar Ilija Studen 2007-09-13 12:50
#1 – Widget: Maybe in the future, but not in activeCollab 1.0… In the meantime someone can come and fill the gap with a widget that interacts with system through API.

#2 – Trial: I really don’t know the details at the moment, but we’ll most probably provide a 30 days hosted trial of commercial version.

#3 – Dates: Summer is not over yet (it ends on September 22nd). You can read more about launch and what is ahead of us in this forum post.
