Wrapping up 0.7
Its been a while since we released 0.7 RC2. Lets see what is open for 0.7 so we can finally finish it up
From various reasons I haven't been able to work on 0.7 branch for past few weeks even though we come so close to the releasing "stable" version. Purpose of this post is to see what are your impressions on 0.7 RC2 and to see if this list of problems is complete. So, here are the questions:
- RSS is working as expected?
- iCalendar is working as expected in major calendar applications?
- There are no crashes (except those in Account section reported here)?
- Anything else? Your comments?
Lets see what are open loops for 0.7 and finish it up. That way we'll be able to rollout a stable release that is way better than 0.6, with complete upgrade tool and possibility to create one-click installation in a matter of minutes.

I set up aC 0.7RC2 demo on Oct 13, and it works well so far.
* RSS is working ( in Japanese) . I can check it with RSS Reader.
* no crash, no data lost
* I can receive e-mail notification with default settings
One thing that dissatisfies me is timezone problem (I reported in this topic ), but it’s not a big problem. Totally I feel very good.

iCalendar is not working with microsoft office 2003.

I haven’t noticed anything other than whats already in the bug tracker.
I ran into a major problem
When I was dealing with file uploads.
I uploaded a file, that had been there awhile called hours.txt
I was trying to clear the amount of hour’s so I ended up doing a revision, or trying to.
When I did, I clicked change, uploaded another file in it’s place, put a revision note, and clicked submit. It just took me to a blank page. That was it, I tried it like 4 time’s and gave up, granted though I only tried it with that one, I haven’t had time to test it again.

I also have had troubles with the file upload. a 1.5mb pdf refused to upload. Also, would request that the file upload limit be something like 30-50mb. Designers on our team need to upload graphics files for other team members and customers to view and comment on.
Another thing is that we feel the tasks are a little too simple. It would be nice to be able to comment on tasks in task lists, prioritize tasks (high, med, low is enough for now). Also it would be good to have more detailed task status instead of just open or completed. A percentage completed box would also be helpful. The % completed could be added for each task list, then the task lists could be added to tell how much of the project is completed or outstanding. To make this work, we would obviously need some time or hourly based estimates for each task. Some of this is obviously for a future release but some should be simple and might be good for 0.7.
Overall a good start though. We look forward to 0.7!

Everything is great here.
RSS works well, but it could provide more information rather than just Who did What.
The user interface needs some work though. Instead of building up new features, please try to perfect the interface.

Email is not working for me… I have 0.7RC2

I haven’t had the time to install the 0.7 RC2 yet (only RC1) – but the only thing I’ve noticed so far is that I cannot delete a project. I get the message «Failled to delete project».

I have problems with the Dashboard view that doesn’t show any activity when it should, and with the RSS feeds that are always empty when they shouldn’t neither (whatever the reader, I tried Thunderbird, Google homepage’s, Netvibes’... And whatever the feed, dashboard feed – obviously empty as the dashboard itself doesn’t show any activity – but also the projects feeds, where there should be some activity in the RSS feed).
Apart from those problems, everything works fine, keep up the good work on this wonderful little app !

It is recommend to install it very new, or is it ok to just upgrade the installation?

Everything’s working great for me. My number one request is speed now. activeCollab is still really slow, especially when compared to Basecamp.
Thank you all for the info. Some mentioned bugs are fixed, some are still open but its good to have them all in one place.
Just to mention: when compared to 0.7 RC2 no new features will be introduced in 0.7.

Using .7rc2, I noticed that after every 3-4 tasks I posted it would take me to the “complete these fields to finish installation screen”. If I fill out the forms and press submit I get a “Owner company already exists”. However, if I continuall press refresh (roughly 4-5 times), it will take me back to the tasks screen, losing the data that I had inputed. I’m not sure if this problem has already been reported, but it’s bothered me so I thought I’d throw it out there.
Since I know PHP, I adjusted some parts of code.
PROBLEMS:
#1 – Notification can’t be configured properly, I can’t disable it where I want it to.
#2 – In the lang file, “Comment ‘xxx’ on ‘xxx’ ”. Word “Comment” should be removed
#3 – deleting avatar does not work
#4 – font should be changed to “Tahoma 8px”, everything looks much easier to read
#5 – I changed the background on messages and comment to dark grey, with light grey border, it is much easier to read posts that way.
#6 – When you enter the project, and goto Messages, all this should be put to one line (Nov 04. 2006 12:58 | Member | Comments: 18 | Tags:—| Edit | Delete), much better readability that way.
#7 – ONE FEATURE (fairly simple to implement) – I want to see what the user is doing chronologically. A “dashboard” containing activity for a single user, for admin eyes only.

Emailing seems to be an issue. From the Milestone setup, I should be able to email my entire team, or more than a single team member. Current setup allows only one member, selected from a dropdown.
From other notifications, clicking on my company name should email the entire team; currently it does not. If I click each member’s name (including my own) nobody receives a notification. (am I making any sense?)

Hi! Just installed activeCollab for our design studio, we really like it, great job!!
A few problems:
– The notification emails aren’t well formatted on Mac (Apple Mail and MS Entourage), no carriage return.
– We can’t find how to open the iCalendar with MS Entourage (on mac). Works well on Apple Mail.
One suggestion:
We would really like to be able to view tasks by users, for a project manager to view all assignated tasks of an employee. This would be very useful for us!

Recent activities is posted for the user that creates stuff but it doesn’t show for my client user. Is activecollab designed this way or is it a flaw?

Unable to wait for localization, I translated all activecollab strings in french
(7RC2) (i just rewrote the content of the english files).
Unfortunately, as can be see in this screenshot, some strings with
accentuated characters are not properly rendered. The HTML entity
shows, instead of the accent.
This does also happens in RSS feeds and emails, which is unfortunate.
and by the way, i you want my french translation for future releases, i’ll be happy to send it.

@eric: Check out this topic for more details. To use special characters you should convert text files to Unicode (they are ASCII now).
I realize no new features in the next release, but I mentioned in a staff meeting your app compared to BaseCamp and no time tracking (we’re grant and donor based) is a big need for us. Look forward to the next release. Thanks,

this bugs probably fixed by now, but i can’t submit content that has ” or ’ symbols in it, it cuts the message off at single or double quotes
One thing that is very important, and fairly easy to implement: in messages, I want to see who gave the last comment. IE.” Last comment: Steve”.
I’ve 0.7rc2 installed, and I can create clients, but they don’t recieve any mail with their password. So, they can’t access.
Is this a known problem?

It would be great to, while waiting for subprojects to be finished, have some kind of grouping of projects. I create a group IE. “Dell”, and then create projects but I choose new project “Reorganisation” to belong to group “Dell”.
When admin goes to edit the group, there should be list of all projects with a “selectbox” in front of them, and the admin can check which projects belong to certain group. This way, one project could belong to more than one group which is excellent option (IE. “Strategic planning”).

The name of the project should be combined of group and project name. IE.: ”(Dell) Marketing” which should be added to the name of the project which resides in the header of the project. I’m sorry for multiple posts.
The Admin panel trips some webhost’s (jumba.com.au for example) mod_security rules which causes apache to generate “406: Not Acceptable” errors.

I love the application and so far, it seems to work fine. I am looking forward to encouraging the use of ActiveCollab within our organization.
However, I am disappointed that you do not have whiteboards.
Also, it would be easier to realize that you can make comments, if there was a link to – edit l delete l add comments

I forgot to add that the Search function should be improved to enable the search throughout all of the components of the project.

@Arianne: Can you explain what do you mean by whiteboards? A graphic tool where people can talk and draw? Thats not an easy thing to make.

* no support for latin chars in RSS and e-mail’s.
* Notification by e-mail on Comments is not working.
* I’ve tried I-Cal with netvibes and the milestones are not reflected on it.
* Some overlapping/render problems in Firefox.
I’d open a ticket in the forum reporting these bugs, and I sent printscreens by mail, but I don’t see them in the list of things to be done.
