New Features in Version 3

Dynamic Interface

New Look: Now activeCollab has a completely new look. The interface is fresh, dynamic, and modern. In fact, now you can get all your work done without a single page refresh, because everything that you need is just a click away. With its brand new way of working, activeCollab feels like an application more than ever before.

Dynamic Lists: Filter, sort and group your files and tasks with a single click. Select one element to view its details, or more to edit them all. Select the change that you want to make to the group, and the entire list will be automatically updated!

Project Outline: A bird's-eye view of your entire project. All milestones, tasks and subtasks are displayed in a tree-like structure, where you can easily add new elements, update or delete the existing ones, move them around, and more. The Project Outline is designed to be 100% keyboard-friendly.

Project Timeline: Clear visual display of milestones will point our important dates in your project. Use the timeline to change the project schedule with an intuitive drag and drop interface. activeCollab will even make sure that milestones are scheduled on workdays only.

Customize Your Home Screen

Make it Your Own: activeCollab 3 lets you configure the first screen that you see after logging in to make it work for you. To personalize the layout, simply select the page layout that you prefer and add any widgets that you'd like to try. Many widgets support further configuration so you can make sure that they only display the information that you need, in the way you want to see it.

More than One Home Screen: Configure one or more screens with different sets of widgets and use them to get different perspectives of your work. Each alternative home screen is displayed as a tab on the first page, so they are always just a click away.

Different Views for Everyone: There's no single view that will work for everyone. That's the reason why activeCollab 3 lets you to configure custom home screens on top of the default one, then set them for people with different roles. This way, administrators, project managers, employees, and clients can all have home screens tailored just for their needs.

Get Paid!

Everything is Covered: Days of running several different applications for your project are over, because you can use activeCollab 3 for the complete project cycle - from the moment when your potential client comes to your website to request a project, to the point when you issue an invoice and process the payment.

PayPal and Authorize.net Integration: Payment processing is built-in right into the core of activeCollab 3. All you need to do is to provide your PayPal or Authorize.net details, and you can start receiving payments from your clients.

Recurring Invoices: Set an invoice template and its recurrence, and activeCollab 3 will automatically create invoices for you. With having payment processing enabled, you don't need to worry about the payments either - activeCollab will handle them as well, so you will have more time to focus on your work.

Budget Tracking

Track the Time and Expenses: activeCollab supports time tracking since the day one. However, in version 3 we have improved it even further with expense tracking support, as well as support for different job types.

Keep Projects on Budget: activeCollab 3 lets you define hourly rates for each job type, as well as estimated cost for projects. With this feature enabled, activeCollab can let you know how the project is evolving, as well as if it is on budget; helping you to notice if the project looks like going over budget long before it becomes a problem.

Issue an Invoice Based on the Spent Resources: Information about tracked time and expenses can also be turned into an invoice easily. With a few clicks, you can bill your clients and get paid for any service provided. When the invoice gets paid, activeCollab will automatically mark related expenses and time records as settled.

Powerful Reporting: Time and expense tracking also comes with a powerful filtering and reporting tool. Use it to analyze tracked data, bill clients, export to Excel, or to print if a hard copy is required.

Advanced Mailing Support

Detailed Email Log: From now on, you don't need to wonder who is being emailed about what. activeCollab helps you keep track exactly what's happening by keeping a detailed log about which messages have been sent, when and to who. And not only that, but the log contains all of the messages that have been received, but also the information about how they have been processed and where they've been imported.

Outgoing Queue: activeCollab lets you select how the email notifications will be delivered: instantly, as a single message when notification is generated, or combined with other notifications as an hourly or daily digest.

Incoming Mail Automation and Improvement: activeCollab can also receive and process email messages from your clients and co-workers. Thanks to the advanced mail filters, you can configure how exactly the messages should be handled. For example, messages can become tasks or discussions in specific projects, or moved directly to Trash in the case of spam messages or auto-responders.

Better Email Notifications: Email notifications look better than ever. Now they use your brand colors, they show all important information and links to additional files. Users can unsubscribe with just one click if they no longer want to receive notifications related to that topic, ensuring that they get only the information that is relevant to them.

Sharing

Easy Sharing: activeCollab 3 makes sharing the content from your projects easier. Even people who don't have an account in your activeCollab now can see the appropriate content, they can post comments and provide feedback. Share tasks, files, notebooks and more, and help everyone to get the work done efficiently.

Collaboration, Simplified: Imagine that you're working on a homepage redesign for your client's website. By using the sharing feature in activeCollab, you can easily upload a project proposal and invite your clients to review it. They will receive a link to a protected webpage where they can see your work and provide the feedback. All of this happens without a single login, allowing them to focus exclusively on the project and things that they wish to be done. By utilizing this feature, you will also help your non tech-savvy clients to get what they wish easily and without too much trouble.

Built for Flexibility: activeCollab sharing can be used in as many ways as you can imagine: to share procedures and instructions, to collaborate on a task or a file, to provide a simple help desk service to clients and co-workers, and much more.

Phone and Tablet Interface

Collaborate on the Move: Even when you are away from your computer (or just in a situation where getting your laptop out of your bag is not practical!), you can relax knowing that you can always access your projects. That means being able to review changes, to submit tasks, log time and more, all on the fly with your tablet or smartphone. All popular platforms are supported, including Apple's iOS, Android, BlackBerry and more, so you can be confident that wherever you are, activeCollab will work for you.

Smart Interface: activeCollab's interface is enhanced even further by automatically optimizing every page as it is loaded, in order to provide the best screen format and resolution for the device you're currently using. Three main screen formats are currently supported: monitor, phone and tablet.

Under the Hood

activeCollab Auto Update: Whenever a new version of activeCollab is released, the system will notify you and provide a way to easily upgrade to the latest release. The process of checking for new releases, as well as the upgrade itself, is fully automated. You don't need to be tech-savvy to install and maintain your activeCollab - the system will take care of everything on its own.

Better API Access Control: Improved activeCollab API gives you greater control regarding who can use this function, and provides easier way for users to connect their applications to activeCollab. Instead of working manually with API keys, users can provide their authentication details and activeCollab will generate API keys for them.

Angie 3.1: New and updated framework takes advantage of most of the features that were introduced in PHP5. This means cleaner and faster code, easier way to extend and modify the behavior of the application and to write your modules.
